Travel to Sylhet in Bangladesh, Destinations
Sylhet is situated in the center of the beautiful Surma Valley, surrounded by scenic tea plantations and lush green tropical forest. This beautiful town is a very popular attraction amongst tourists visiting Bangladesh.
Sylhet breaks the repetitiveness of the flat lands in the region with its terraced tea gardens, rolling countryside and exotic flora and fauna. The sounds of the animals that live in the tropical forests, together with the scent of orange groves and pineapple plantations, give Sylhet the most relaxing feeling to its air.
The Sylhet Valley is fed by a pair of beautiful winding rivers named the Surma and the Kushiara, both of which are fed by innumerable hill streams from the north and the south side. The valley is also home to a large number of hoars. These hoars provide sanctuary to the millions of birds that have migrated from the Himalayas to escape to bitter cold of the Siberian winters. Hoars are huge stretches of vertile green land that are transformed into marshy areas during the rainy season.
About 80 km from Sylhet is a town named Srimangal that is connected to Sylhet by road and rail. Srimangal is known as the tea capital of Bangladesh and it is also the actual tea centre of the area. A visit to the tea plantation of Sylhet is a memorable experience. The beauty of the place just goes on for miles and miles and visitors can see the tea gardens spread like a green carpet over the plain land and the sloping hills.
