Golden Temple - Nestled in Scenic Tranquility
A mere ninety two kilometers outside of Chittagong, is a picturesque part of Bangladesh that is referred to as the rooftop of the country. Over and above the fact that the hill town is home to two of the highest peaks in Bangladesh, namely Tajingdong and Keokeradong, it is one of the most breathtaking parts of the country. Winding roads through dense green forests, rolling hills of lush vegetation and with rich bird life and numerous animals in the area, Bandarban is an attraction in its own right for nature lovers. But amongst the tranquil waterfalls and awe inspiring hill top views, are a few additional noteworthy sites, such as the Golden Temple.
The Mogh tribe members who live in Bandarban are Buddhists by religion and are festive and very friendly people to encounter. It is therefore fitting that the biggest Buddhist Temple in Bangladesh, is found here. The route to the Golden Temple is almost as stunning as the structure itself. Embraced by rich vegetation, seeing the royal staircase and temple rise above its surroundings is an indescribable sight. Its gold coloring announces to visitors that they are about to explore a magnificent site that is completely unforgettable. Its exquisite Arakanese architecture only enhances the beauty of the sculptures features here, which includes Bangladesh’s second biggest Lord Buddha statue. Other decorations, such as smaller statues and a golden bell resting underneath a dragon are a feast for the eyes. The Golden Temple is an important religious attraction and visitors should not miss out on the opportunity to visit this wonderful site.
