Dhaka City Dhaka (ঢাকা, formerly spelled Dacca, named Jahangir-nagar during Mughal era) is the capital of Bangladesh. It is a mega city and one of the major cities of South Asia. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River, had a population of over 16 million in 2011. It is the 9th largest city in the world and also 28th among the most densely populated cities in the world. Dhaka is known as the City of Mosques and with 400000 cycle rickshaws running on its streets every day, the city is also described as the Rickshaw Capital of the World. Under Mughal rule in the 17th century, the city was known as Jahangir Nagar. The modern city, however, was developed chiefly under British rule in the 19th century, and became the second-largest city in Bengal. After the Partition of Bengal in 1905, Dhaka became the capital of the new province of Eastern Bengal and Assam but lost its status as a provincial capital again after the partition was annulled in 1911. After the partition of India in 1947, Dhaka became the administrative capital of East Pakistan, and later, in 1971, the capital of an independent Bangladesh. Modern Dhaka is the center of political, cultural and economic life in Bangladesh. Dhaka suffers from urban problems such as pollution and overpopulation. Cox's Bazar (Bengali: কক্সবাজার) is a town, a fishing port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. It is known for its wide sandy beach which is one of the world's longest natural sandy sea beach.It is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. It is located 150 km south of Chittagong. Cox's Bazar is also known by the name "Panowa", the literal translation of which means "yellow flower". Its other old name was "Palongkee". The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Cox (died 1799), an officer serving in British India. In the 18th century, an officer of British East India Company, Captain Hiram Cox was appointed as the Superintendent of Palongkee outpost after Warren Hastings became the Governor of Bengal. Captain Cox was specially mobilised to deal with a century long conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains. The Captain was a compassionate soul and the plight of the people touched his heart. He embarked upon the mammoth task of rehabilitating refugees in the area, and made significant progress. A premature death took Captain Cox in 1799 before he could finish his work. But the work he had done earned him a place in the hearts of the locals and to commemorate his role in rehabilitation work a market was established and named after him as Cox's Bazaar ("Cox's Market"). 7 counties, 10 participants, 10 most popular songs in Malaysia, who will be the 1st PALMA(Pertandingan Akhir Nyanyian Lagu Melayu Antarabangsa)? The 1st Malay Songs International Singing Competition: The Grand Finale will be held in Kuala Lumpur, 4th of December 2011. The competitor winning the first prize can have RM10,000 respectively in addition to the prize-winners' certificates and cups. The Malay international vocal competition is a major Malay songs international singing competition event under the auspices of the Ministry of Information Communication & Culture (Malaysia) and is held for the 1st year organize by National department for Culture & Arts (JKKN). As for the competition repertoire, the 1st PALMA will carry on the tradition of attaching importance to both internationality and nationality.
