From the Internet: After independence in 1947, in East Bengal there was growing tension between local Bengali-speakers and Urdu-speaking migrants, who were seen as being the collaborators of an increasingly unpopular West Pakistani regime. In February 1952, students protesting against the imposition of Urdu as the national language of Pakistan were gunned down. These students became known as the Language Martyrs and their struggle is commemorated in the Shahid Minar memorials that stand in Dhaka, Tower Hamlets and Oldham. The Language Movement that grew from these events is often seen as the start of the struggle for independence in East Pakistan, which led to the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. আমার ভাইয়ের রক্তে রাঙানো একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February is a Bangla song which was written by Abdul Gaffar Choudhury to mark the Bengali Language Movement in the 1950s in East Pakistan. Every year on 21 February, People of Bangladesh pay homage to those killed in the Language Movement demonstrations by singing: Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February: How can I ever forget the twenty-first of February? ---------------------------------------------- Dino Kaka, Lella Kaki & Friends would show their Respect for LANGUAGE MARTYRS by sharing this video taken on February 21, 2012 at Rishilpi's Campus in Gopinathpur, Binerpota, Satkhira - Bangladesh

Rezwan & Samira's "Gaye Holud" [03:11]
My two good college friends are now officially married, as they begin the next stage of their lives together as one. In the lead-up to their official marriage, they have invited people to take part in their pre-wedding ceremony known as 'Gaye Holud' (A ceremony observed in Bangladesh and Indian West Bengal). It is part of an elaborate series of celebrations that constitute the Bengali Wedding. Rezwan graduated from Northwestern University in Qatar, and Samira graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. Guess what? Both campuses are in the same building. Bangladesh concrete project [01:34]
Bangladesh coastal area (this video is specifically Cox's Bazaar) does not have aggregate, so they making bricks and chip away to create aggregate. This was the only task I saw women and children performing outside the home. The mixed concrete was carried (by men) in baskets balanced atop the head, up two flights to the floor where it was being poured. (recorded in 1999)

Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya - Sustainable Tourism in Bangladesh [02:00]
Bangladeshi economist points out the kind of travel and tourism his country should pursue. We agree 100% at Crowdsourced Travel. Please join our effort to promote Sustainable Tourism in Bangladesh: bangladesh.crowdsourced.travel FULL TRANSCRIPT: "Bangladesh has to pitch itself for Sustainable Tourism. What is sustainable tourism? Sustainable tourism is when you do promote your tourism you create income, a flow of investment but you do not reduce the quality of the nature and the society and culture at the same time. Sustainable tourism is also linked to the millennium development goals. The first goal is the eradication of poverty. So sustainable tourism will mean linking the poor people, the informal sector into the private sector mainstream tourism sector. So, poverty alleviation and tourism should go hand in hand. This is the first principle of sustainable tourism. The second point is how to relate the natural issues or the preservation of natural capital of what we have. Whether it is Sundabarn or Cox's Bazaar beach. How do you like the environmental concerns with the tourism? The third pillar is to achieve the MDG goal #7, that is gender equity. How do you really bring in women employment to the tourism industry? Finally, the last but not the least is about the international partnerships, so you also look forward to international collaboration and international investment both in the infrastructure and the forms of tourism. I see the prospects."

20110820 BRA (operazione reggipetto) [02:34]
Several remedies are necessary to free the tribal Mundas of the Sunderban Forest from their misery and poverty.Of all the problems identified and solutions proposed, literacy and education are the basic tools to achieve other objectives such as consciousness about distinct cultural identity, economic development, new kind of leadership, political power, better ways of living and so on. The tribal Mundas of the Sunderban Forest have a long way to go! For Munda girls, the possibility to wear a bra does really mean: a step forward!
