For Actual Info Press More ------------------------------------------------ Bashundhara City (Bengali: বসুন্ধরা সিটি) is a shopping mall located in Dhaka, Bangladesh with a rotunda architecture. Opened to the public on 6 August 2004, the mall is located at Panthapath, near Karwan Bazar, in Dhaka city. Bashundhara City is 21 stories tall, of which 8 are used for the mall and the remaining floors are used as the corporate headquarters of the Bashundhara Group. The mall has space for 2500 retail stores and cafeterias and also possesses a large underground gymnasium, a multiplex styled movie theater and top floor food court along with an indoor theme park. The fully air-conditioned shopping mall with rooftop gardens is considered a modern symbol of the emerging city of Dhaka. Up to 25000 people visit the mall daily, which is the first western style mall in the city, designed by the Principal Architect Mustapha Khalid Palash and Mohammad Foyez Ullah of Vistaara. The cost of the building is more than $100 million; construction started in 1998. The building has been described as an indication of the severe division between the middle class and the lower class. It is one of the showcases of the development in Bangladesh. What is sustainable tourism? Sustainable tourism is when you do promote your tourism you create income, a flow of investment but you do not reduce the quality of the nature and the society and culture at the same time. Sustainable tourism is also linked to the millennium development goals. The first goal is the eradication of poverty. So sustainable tourism will mean linking the poor people, the informal sector into the private sector mainstream tourism sector. So, poverty alleviation and tourism should go hand in hand. This is the first principle of sustainable tourism. The second point is how to relate the natural issues or the preservation of natural capital of what we have. Whether it is Sundabarn or Cox's Bazaar beach. How do you like the environmental concerns with the tourism? The third pillar is to achieve the MDG goal #7, that is gender equity. How do you really bring in women employment to the tourism industry? Finally, the last but not the least is about the international partnerships, so you also look forward to international collaboration and international investment both in the infrastructure and the forms of tourism. Jinnah Mausoleum [02:24]
Mazar-e-Quaid or the National Mausoleum refers to the tomb of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is an iconic symbol of Karachi throughout the world. The mausoleum is situated at the heart of the city, completed in 1960s. It is made of white marble with curved Moorish arches and copper grills rest on an elevated 54 square meters platform. The cool inner sanctum reflects the green of a four-tiered crystal chandelier gifted by the people of China. Around the mausoleum there is a park fitted with strong beamed spot-lights which at night project light on the white mausoleum. The location is usually calm and tranquil which is significant considering that it is in the heart of one of the largest global megalopolises. The glowing tomb can be seen for miles at night. Liaqat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Jinnah's sister, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, are also buried besides Jinnah. Official and military ceremonies take place here on special occasions, especially on 23 March, 14 August, 11 September, 25 December, 8 July and 30 July. Dignitaries and officials from foreign countries also visit this place. The Mazar-e-Quaid is now officially recognized as the National Mausloeum of the country.
