Dhaka - Dhaka City, Bangladesh (ahmed art foundation rickshaw dhaka, jamuna rickshaw art) [01:48]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow video of a travel blog to Dhaka, Bangladesh by TravelPod blogger Tsargood. See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Dhaka "On the train journey from Rajshahi to Dhaka we spot the first Westerners. They are an older couple who have been living in Bangladesh for many years and teach at the University in Rajshahi. They say the only see tourists once in a blue moon and that it's usually friends or family that they have invited! We make friends with a couple of very friendly businessmen who are sitting opposite us and spend a good 5 hours chatting with them. We cross the enormous Jamuna river (about 3km wide) on the one and only bridge and are soon pulling into our final destination, which is some way out of Dhaka. The train pulling out of the station as we pull in is absolutely rammed with people - hanging out the doors and windows and balancing precariously on the roof. Our new friends direct us into a taxi then onto a bus before saying goodbye. They pay all the fares for us, but won't accept any money. They have given us their phone numbers and insist we call them if we need any help at all while we're in Dhaka. We've never experienced such profound hospitality before! So we've finally made it to the capital city, where the air is as thick, hot and unpleasant as warm sewage. It's a public holiday, so perhaps a little quieter than usual, which isn't really very quiet. We take a horrendous hotel room, which reeks of urine, has a colony of ...

The Tea Gardens - Sylhet City, Bangladesh (jobs bangladesh tea factory, sylhet tea bagan) [02:12]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow video of a travel blog to Sylhet, Bangladesh by TravelPod blogger Marie_mc. See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com The Tea Gardens "The next two days, we visit the local plces of interest, inc the famous tea gardens and the local natural gas lakes and ruins. After an early start we set off for one of my uncles tea gardens, its a 2 1/2 houre journey, through the Bangladeshi countryside. This was one of those moments where the journey alone was as interesting as the destination. The area around the Surma Valley is famous for its tea, and our destination was called Srimangal. We passed through rice paddy fields, which being the dry season were surprisingly wet. The weather has been quite unusual for this time of year, with quite a lot of rain. Also along the way were rubber tree plantations, which we will talk about later on. Driving through the countryside you realize just how populates the country is. Its approximately the size of Wales, yet the official population is approx 160million(yet surprisingly no sheep Sarah...so don't think about emigrating here). Unofficially the figure could be as close to 180million. As you pass through the countryside, there is very little stretches of non built up areas. There is almost one village or town every couple of miles or so. However the villages are very rural in their nature, with few buildings more than 2 stories tall. The heart of the towns and villages are the markets, and each one has the ...

Cox's Bazar Sea Beach [10:27]
Cox's Bazar is a town, a fishing port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. It is known for its wide sandy beach which, believed to be the world's longest natural sandy sea beach. It is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope. It is located 150 km south of Chittagong. Cox's Bazar is also known by the name "Panowa", the literal translation of which means "yellow flower". Its other old name was "Palongkee". The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Cox (died 1799), an officer serving in British India. In the 18th century, an officer of British East India Company, Captain Hiram Cox was appointed as the Superintendent of Palongkee outpost after Warren Hastings became the Governor of Bengal. Captain Cox was specially mobilised to deal with a century long conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains. The Captain was a compassionate soul and the plight of the people touched his heart. He embarked upon the mammoth task of rehabilitating refugees in the area, and made significant progress. A premature death took Captain Cox in 1799 before he could finish his work. But the work he had done earned him a place in the hearts of the locals and to commemorate his role in rehabilitation work a market was established and named after him as Cox's Bazaar ("Cox's Market"). Although Cox's Bazar is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Bangladesh, it has yet to become a major international tourist destination, due to lack of publicity.
