The first field trip as part of the India phase Ranan-Transport Theatre project was a visit to Hasnabad-Taki on the banks of the Icchamati river which forms part of the border between India and Bangladesh in the North 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal. Every year on Bijoya Dashami - as Bengalis the world over get ready to bid the goddess Durga goodbye after 5 days of festivities, patrolling and control by both Indian and Bangladeshi forces are relaxed on the Icchamati allowing a coming together and display of camaraderie which underlines the absurdity of this national border that cuts through Bengal.
