Same Shiite... Different Day...

Shawn and I went to the Buriganga river today and we spotted a fort on the opposite bank. We decided to check it out and on the way the car we were in was repeatedly stopped. We inadvertently drove through Old Dhaka into the middle of a VERY large muslim festival. Plans were changed and instead of seeing a sight we decided to be a part of it and wade through the crowd. We made our way to the front of a mosque where the majority of the crowd was converging... We found out later this is a shiite festival to honor two of Muhammed's grandchildren, Hussein and Hassan. I believe it's the Day of Ashura but I'm not 100% sure as the Day of Ashura is on the 10th day of Muharram... but I digress... The atmosphere was lively and terrifying... It was a very large Muslim mosh-pit reminiscent of the Black Friday rush that was happening in the US at the same time. At many points the crowd surged and my movement was involuntary... when a surge happened Shawn and I literally became swept up in it and leaving became difficult. This is part of my Bangladesh trip. I went to Bangladesh for 3 months to document the building of a school with Shawn (Uncultured Project). If you want to learn more about that project if you use the link below to his youtube channel all the details are there. The majority of the trip on this channel is cell phone videos of certain moments... If you like this video please Subscribe, Comment, Rate, Favorite, and tell your friends. Find me on...
