Bangladesh Shopping Options
Bangladesh is truly a shoppers' paradise, with a wide variety of handicrafts, jewelry and materials at bargain prices. Silks, coconut masks, bamboo products, handloom fabrics, woodworks, cane and conch shell products, gold and silver ornaments, cotton, printed saris, and folk dolls are very popular. Duty-free Shopping centers are run by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (NTO), and they are located mostly in Dhaka City and at all the major airports. These shops enjoy the reputation of being well established with a wide range of goods at very good prices. They sell goods such as wines and spirits, perfumes, cigarettes, hi-fi and stereo systems, cameras, watches and a wide range of household appliances. Note that most of these shops do not accept foreign currencies and credit cards.
Generally the shopping hours of Bangladesh are from 09:00 am to 20:00 pm Saturdays to Thursdays, and 09:00 am to 12:30 pm and 14:00 pm to 20:00 on Fridays. Most shops in the tourist districts tend to stay open later.
