I'm a Chinese journalist who stayed in Bangladesh for two years between Dec. 1993 to Jan. 1996. I really love the country, though it has lots of problems.
During my stay, I travelled extensively across the country by car and was deeply impressed with dirty streets of cities and beautiful scenes in the countryside, and the sharp contrasts between the rich and the poor, as well.
What impressed me most was that Bangladeshis were so friendly to Chinese and foreigners from other nations.
What surprised me was that very few Bangladeshis I met said he or she loved the motherland and wanted to contribute everything to build it into a rich, powerful and beautiful country.
It made me sad and sorrowful to see that most of the Bangladeshis I saw were idling around or trying every means to go abroad.
Once in a talk with some of my Bangladeshi friends, when I was asked to point out the biggest problem in the country, I said, "Few of your countrymen love this country. That's why It has developed so slow and there are so many strikes and beggars."
If I'm a Bangladeshi, I will love it and work for its prosperity with all my life.
Love your motherland, please. My dear Bangladeshi friends. Bangladeshi people are as wise and hardworking as peoples of other countries including Americans, in fact, tens of thousands of them are from Bangladesh.
Make it a beautiful place. Bangladesh will attract more and more investment and tourists.
I hope one day Bangladesh will be listed as one of the best places to travel and stay in the world.
I'd like to meet new and old friends from Bangladesh. Anyone who wants to make friends to me, please write to fangzhou@xinhuanet.com

You are very correct Zhou

I live in England and British Bangali`s are very proud of our country, but when I visited Bangladesh a few years back my findings were very similer to yours.

I found most people to be very negetive, all willing to spend lots of money to go abroad. They never thought that if they invested the same money in Bangladesh they would equally prosper and also Bangladesh would prosper too.

There is a saying in English " THE GRASS ALWAYS SEEMS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE". The Bangladeshi`s in Bangladesh most definately belive that.

Its a sorry situation, and of course the unstable political situation does not help

I am very happy that you have enjoyd my country, hope fully one day I will visit China because I love chinise food, specially DIM-SUM on sunday mornings.

My brother is also a practioner of Chinese martial art WING CHUN. He is always reading books on chinese stuff, ZEN, Master Yip Man etc etc..

Good luck!

Bye.

Rumi

Hey, I'm a Bengali from America ( New Jersey)and I surely agree with you(s). You see, I went to Bangladesh this summer (2000) and I found out many things I never knew before. the country is indeed a very beautiful place. Especially, the Chittagong Hills and Cox's Bazaar. but, i also faced lots of discrimination. They think, just because I'm from Amercia, i'll be a softy and not know anything about Bangladesh. Pshhhhhhh- were they wrong! They just shun people from America; I don't know why. they think we're dumb and unreligious.

oh, talking about Chinese food- I'm having it right now. My favorite........ General Tso's Chicken and Shrimp in Garlic Sauce. Hey thanks for visiting our country. Will any of you visit America? it's pretty nice here you know!

It seems for all of you the grass seems to be greener on the other side. You live in UK, US etc and you think Bangladeshis should love their country more.

They love their country enough. I know that. There are many who want to go abroad, many who would stay there forever.
