Wanganui is the west-coast gateway to some of the North Island's most untamed and majestic scenery, including the Whanganui National Park. To the east of Wanganui are the Manawatu and Horowhenua regions.

For those considering immigration to New Zealand, Palmerston North in the Manawatu area is an excellent alternative to the bigger centres of Wellington and Auckland.
