Liverpool 2 - 1 West Ham.
After beating Man U in da charity Sheild, u have now opened our premiership account with a win. I am SO HAPPY dat da football season has begun. ![]() ![]() ![]() Report: Michael Owen was Liverpool's saviour at Anfield this afternoon as the Reds took all three points from their Premiership opener against West Ham. It took Owen just 17 minutes to open his league account for the new season, calmly side-footing home following an exquisite flick-on from Gary McAllister, but the visitors levelled eleven minutes later through their skipper Paolo Di Canio, who converted from the penalty spot after Henchoz had tripped Todorov. The Reds then struggled to make their supremacy tell against a resolute Hammers side and it wasn't until the 78th minute that the points were won. Owen mesmerised two West Ham defenders on the edge of the box before shooting low past Hislop and into the back of the Kop net.
