Thumbs up

The Third South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship will be held in Dhaka between October 25 and November 10 this year.

This was disclosed by the officials of Bangladesh Football Federation on Thursday, reports BSS.

All the seven South Asian countries --Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh --are expected to take part in the regional football competition, a biennial event of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), SAFF General Secretary Sirajul Islam Bachchu told a press conference at the Bangabandhu National Stadium's conference room.

The tournament will take place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium despite its allotment to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) during the period. BFF got the allotment of the stadium from May 1 to September 30.

"We hope the stadium will be given to us on mutual understanding with BCB and the National Sports Council as it is the only well-equipped stadium for international events," Harun said.

If necessary we would consider to recast the dates of the tournament, he indicated.

Earlier the AFCML officials, who arrived in the city on Wednesday, called on State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader. The AFCML officials discussed different aspects of the tournament with the minister.

The Sports Minister assured the officials of the government's all kinds of co-operation to hold the tournament successfully. Officials of the BFF were also present.

They had meeting with BFF officials, visited stadium and inspected the training facilities, accommodation and media facilities and expressed their satisfactions at the facilities.

The AFCML officials will leave Dhaka today.

Wink

From this SAFF cup taking place dis year in Bangladesh in end of October, will be an under- 23 competition. Fifa has instructed dat it is to be an under- 23 competition from now on.

So u wont be gettin da big name players like Alfraz playin in it anymore.

However the SAF Games takin place in Paki-land in October should hav full strength football team, which Bangladesh is current champions in it!!!!
