A 30-member Abahani football team embarked on a maiden week-long tour of England on Sunday. The popular Dhanmondi outfit will play a couple of exhibition matches during their visit.

The second club side to tour Britain after Mohammedan Sporting Club's visit last year, Abahani will play their first match against Sporting Bengal United on March 14. Their second match against the under-19 selection of English Premiership side West Ham United will be played at Upton Park on March 19.

The tour has been arranged by Canary Warf in an effort to entertain the strong Bangladesh expatriate community in the United Kingdom.

SQUAD

Iqbal Hossain (captain), Biplab Bhattachariya, Matiur Rahman Munna, Abdul Qayum Sentu, Partho Protim Kundu, Rakib Mahbub Apel, Arman, Tito, Sujon, Rokonuzzaman Kanchan, Nazrul Islam, Pavel, Tanveer Chowdhury, Alfaz Ahmed and Zakir Hossain Shahin and Dulal Saha.

Officials: Ashrafuddin Chunnu (Chief-of-mission), Bazlul Haque Beg (deputy leader), Dewan Shafiul Arefin (deputy leader), Shah Alam Chowdhury (coordinator), Momem Munna (manager) and Amalesh Sen (coach).

One minor detail which has been missed. It's the Hammers under-19's squad they're playing.

No details missed.... OK I didn't say under 21 on da 'subject' but it does say on da actual posting.

Plus if we played West Ham... I tink they'd battar us 20-0. At least we got a chance wid da under 19's.

I remeber dat Mohamoden lost somting like 5-2 to WHU u19.

Alfaz used to play for Mohammedan when I last watched them play. The guy was good for bangladesh standards.

What I don't get is why would you need two deputy leaders plus a coordinator. There is a chief of mission, a manager and a coach. I don't see a fitness guy nor a physio.
