Our boys are through to the final of the ACC U-17 cricket tournament. They did a good job against the young Sri Lankans, bowling them out for 140, (Sharif-ul-Islam 3/42) and got the required runs without too much bother, (Zahoor-ul-Islam 55*, Nafiz Iqbal 36 and Mohammed Ashraf 22).
Nice work! They'll be playing India U-17 in the final. |

Same hope here. Hope they win. Are they really that good? Or are we cheating with Age again?

mhnew,
can't confirm or deny the suspicions about age. BCB adamantly denied that any messing around was going on, (their letter to this effect appeared on the Bangladesh cricket site which Tehsin has just advertised) but then BCB would say that, wouldn't they! One of our forumers on "Teststatus.com" got to watch Bangladesh U-17 on BTV and I think she said that at least one player, Zahoor-ul-Islam, who got a fifty against the Sri Lankans, looked a bit old. Very speculative however due to BTV's appalling picture quality. Star, THEORETICALLY, Bangladesh should be in a position to start winning more ODIs NOW. It's very sad that they haven't done this but I strongly believe that the team has not played to its full potential and that the selectors haven't helped either. They've fiddled around with way too many players instead of sticking with a settled team like the Kenyans. Bangladesh's main problems are as follows: 1) Poor back foot technique by the batsmen, rendering them highly vulnerable to decent pace bowling on bouncy tracks. 2) A lack of genuinely fast pace bowlers. 3) A lack of class spinners, (though the situation in the spin department is better than it is with the seamers). A lot of people say Mohammed Rafiq, Enam-ul-Haq and Naim-ur-Rahman are good spinners but their ODI figures have yet to reflect this. 4) Shoddy fielding, (If Bangladesh had fielded better in a match against Zimbabwe in 1999, they'd have probably won it). 5) A lack of international exposure - but this should soon change with the new ICC fixtures calendar. |

I can confirm that Manjural Islam is over 17.. but he seems to be playin.
Nway... wish we beat India. Beirut82..... It would be misleading to say that we should win matches by now. OK... Officially we have had very few ODI's and 1 test match over the last year.... u have to give the national team another 1/2 yrs before they really make a difference. I agree that lack of experience and international exposure does effect the team. Also I really think that they need more pace bowlers. Hasibul is the best bowler in the national squad, yet he is only medium/fast pace. Could anyone explain - Why was it that both Shafiuddin and Hasibul were never picked to play as 1st and 2nd bowler respectively, during the world cup?????
