did anyone go down there today?

i took an extended lunch and joined in the celebrations... it was awesome.

loads of cheering, singing, flag waving and general high sprits.... and when the rugby team went past, everyone broke into a loud rendition of 'swing low.... sweet chariot...'

im glad i went.... its rare to see british patriotism (unless its about something racist!)

bet we wouldve been given a public holiday if we had won the footie world cup though!

anisa

we don't go cheering loudly for england

we just sit and home and support them

as for patriotism - it's there in huge amounts - juz england never win at anything decent... and even with the Rugby - winning the world cup just meant that England r better than Australia, New Zealand, France, Wales, Ireland, South Africa and Scotland - basically eight countries who play competitive international rugby.

tho i did watch the England matches.

With rugby - as compared to say football or cricket, it's still very much a white-person's game in this country - even amongst the supporters... if i was in the crowd i think i'd feel a bit awkward as a result.

Plus - as nice as Swing Low Sweet Chariot sounds - i don't like how the meaning has been changed given that it was a song of hope for Black American Slaves.

Anyway - next year Bangladesh r in town to get thrashed in the ICC Mini-World Cup - i'm gonna b bookin my tickets as soon as they come out - look forward to seein some of u guys down the east-end when it's all over.

i dont think theres anything wrong with supporting england.... i was born and brought up here, and i plan on living here forever, so i'll be rooting them on in sports(oh sorry, i forgot that we're only sposed to be here so that we can rip off all the tax payers and take benefits we aint entitled to)

and for your info, there were loadsa asians down there... people who know who they are aint usually so fixated on proving that they're bengali all the time by labelling things either 'white' or 'bengali'.

i'll be wearing my cricket t.shirt and supporting bdesh next time they're playing too.... im a brit bangla, so i'll support both countries and i'll be proud of both of them, cos they're both a part of who i am.

stop taking life so seriously and get over it.

ermmm i wasn't being that serious...

and i wasn't sayin nething bout not supporting england - i support all england teams unless they're playin B'desh - i've always said that.

and i think i supported the england rugby team more than most on here - i stayed up all nite but woke up again to watch the final - but it was a sporting contest for me - the event was the final.... that was the moment to savour... i think the celebrations after that have gone a lil ott..

tho however much i support england i don't think i could drape a white-flag around me - dont think i cud have the st-george's cross painted on my face... i'm more of a introverted england fan - fervant nationalism scares me.. maybe that's the fault of thethe BNP, Daily Mail and Daily Telegraphs of this world - i've read and seen too much material from these sources that show they are not keen on the increased cultural diversity of this country...

newayz my apologies for makin u roll your eyes twice.

sooooo.....

Jonny Wilkinson

It would be a crime to have a 'sports' board without a thread being dedicated to the man....
