Does someone want to try and explain cricket to me. As a Bengali girl, I feel I should know a little something about this sport, but as I'm also Canadian, I am unfortunetely completely clueless about it.

Ok, each team has 11 players. One team fields, the other team bats. At any one time, two batters are on the field, one on each end.....the idea is to bat and run between these two ends as many times as possible.....If you bat and the other team catch the ball before it bounces, you are out. If the ball hits the three wooden sticks when they are bowling or while you are off your line (called a crease) you are out. Once ten people are out your 'innings' is over and you field.

Whe someone is out, the other team have 'taken a wicket'. The basics are as simple as that, the team that gets more runs wins. Each team will have two innings unless it is a one day match.

Each set of 6 bowled balls is known as an 'Over', and after each over the bowler changes and so does the end from which they bowl. There are many crazy rules to cricket, this is just the bare minimum...

Are the 2 ppl batting back and forth to each other? Who is doing the running? What's a bowler? And lastly, how would the other team catch the ball if there are always ppl running between the wickets? LOL....cricket seems like a really, really complicated version of baseball to me right now.

You watch baseball??? GREAT!!!! In cricket, the bowler is the equivalent of the Pitcher, they throw the ball to the batter.

Both batters run, when the ball is thrown at one of them, they hit it as far as they can so that they can keep running as much as possible. Each time they run from end to end they get one run. They always run in conjuction with each other so that they don't get out. Remember, 6 balls are bowled from one end before they change, so there has to be two batters in case one of them only makes one run.....because they would not be on the right end to bat again. Two batters, for two sides.

They catch the ball the same as in baseball.....while it is in the air...in cricket it is much harder to get someone out.

No, I don't watch baseball (I might one day if I'm having trouble getting to sleep...lol). But years of growing up forced to play "soccer-baseball" and then softball at school have taught me the rules. Just one question, where does the pitcher stand if there's already 2 batters facing each other...and does the batter then try to hit the ball over the head of the other batter? I lied, I have another question: do they have to touch one/both of the batters with the ball in order to get them out(like in baseball) or is it just if one of the outfielders catches the ball?

Cool Ok....here we go.....

The two batters are at opposite ends.....the bowler runs alongside the one that isn't batting and throws it to the other one to hit. The cricket field is 360 degree circle......he can hit it anywhere, and then he runs to get points.

There are many ways to get a cricketer out:

-catching: if the batter hits it in the air, any of the other team catch it before it hits the ground and he is out.

-Bowled: If the batter misses the ball when it is thrown at him, and it strikes the three sticks behind him, he is out.

-Stumped: If the batter is running and one of the other team manage to hit the three sticks while he is off his line, he is out.

-LBW (leg before wicket). If the batter misses the ball and it strikes his leg.....if the ball is in line with the 3 sticks and strikes his leg he is out.

You can only get one of them out at a time, but it can be either one once the batter has hit the ball.
