Question

Since most of you guys will no doubt classify yourself as both Bengali and British (British and Bengali) I was just wondering which team you are supporting? (If you are supporting them at all )

I know that the Bengali team is still young and need to marure and develop their skills etc whereas the English team is very routined, but that aside, who do you cheer for?

when it's England vs Bangladesh - i unashamedly support Bangladesh... it's even better that Bangladesh are overwhelmingly the underdogs, who are on the up and beginning to squeeze out respect from amongst the cricketing community.

tho i tend to support england when they're playing against most other teams, in most other sports, because you know the players etc., and it's hard to get all excited about players you don't really know about..

but much as i do support England in football etc - i can never refer to England as "we" or "us" or "our lads" whereas i can when it's Bangladesh playing in cricket...

and i wouldn't wanna wear an England jersey (though non-English jersey's such as Brazil are okay because they're a neutral nation with no Imperial Colonising past) - but i would wear a Bangladeshi top if it wasn't for the fact that it's green with tiger stripes across it.

when it comes to cricket, id support bangladesh all the way baby!... mainly cos i hate the england cricket team. never in my life have i seen such a large number of idiots playing on the same team... something about ashley giles and his cronies just makes me unable to support england in cricket... i even cheered for australia over england in the last world cup!

if it came to football tho, i dont know who id support.... i love my england team, but prolly cos the bangladesh team arent good enough to play internationally yet... if there was an england v bangladesh footie match, it would be a tough call as to who id chose to support.... id be equally pleased for either side if they were victorious... i reckon id be neutral on that one.

and star, whats wrong with the bdesh cricket shirt... i have one and wear it with pride! (okay, okay, i only wear it in bed but its very comfortable.....)

angel, since you posed the question, do u see ureself more as a pakistani or a scandinavian, and who would you support in a cricket match (if we pretend that the latter had a team!)

The "problem" with me is that I consider myself to be a hybrid, not belonging to any specific place. Both good and bad. Hence I neither support Pakistan in any sports, nor the Danish teams. If you only knew how many times I have been told off by both Pakis and Danes alike for this!

In cricket (though I only understand the basics) I'll support India any day of the week! My choice made me, understandably enough if seen with PK eyes, very unpopular with my jiju last World Cup
Nevertheless that's the team I support and I really enjoy watching India play...ehem esp Rahul Dravid

An Italian friend of mine doesn't understand the "obsession" people have with Italian jerseys I have one and when she saw it she just gave me a look that said, "oh here we have another foreign nutter"

I like my Brazil shirt, but when I wore it at the gym I was called "chicken" by someone It might not have Imperial connotations, but it's not as "neutral" as it may seem! lol

I've always found the italian football kit to look a bit gay - it's always been body-fitting - but girls seem to like it

Did you not consider the possibility that the "foreign nutter" comment may have had no connection with the jersey but more to do with the person wearing it??

And as for being called chicken for wearing a Brazil shirt - sounds to me a classic case of Brazil-shirt envy - the person in question probably couldn't find a shirt themselves (maybe even contemplated for a second that they'd get away with buying the one shirt left on the rails, even though it was XXXL )
