Salam Alaikum...

Note:It is an answer by a 'Sunni' in reply to a question of a 'Sunni' about Ahl-e-Bait...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Readers,

Salamun Alaikum...

I am very much thankful to Brother Amir Panjwani and others who had forwarded some important questions and asked me to reply as soon as possible. Well this is only my research towards right path. If you find anything wrong, please feel free to write but with authentic reference.

Amir says : “'Ahl-e-Bait' means: 'members of the house'. If it is so then this should also include wives of Prophet (pbuh) including Umm-al-Momineen Ayesha. Why do Shias not recognize her???

Abdullah says: "Brother Amir, This is a very critical matter among the Muslims. Majority of the Muslim believes that along with Panjetan (i.e. Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, Hassan & Hussain(as)) wives of Holy Prophet (p) are also included in Ahlulbait and the minority believes that only Panjetan are the Ahlulbait.

Let us refer Holy Qur’an and Traditions of Holy Prophet (p) by which we can find out the truth. First let us try to understand the laws of Arabic, by which we can find out the truth. Arabic laws: KUNNA : is a feminine used for more then two Females KUM : is a masculine used for more then two Males In a mix gathering of Male & Female it will be used by seeing the majority. If Males are more then KUM will be used and if Females are more then KUNNA will be used. If we refer the verse of Holy Quran (chp.33 : Verse33) we find that in the beginning of this verse ALLAH (s.w.t.) is pointing out the wives of Holy Prophet (p.) and warning them to stay in their house, here ALLAH (s.w.t.) has used the word KUNNA. And in the end of this verse, where the description of purity is mentioned He (Allah) has used the word KUM. In Panjetan there are 4 males (Prophet Mohammed, Hazrat Ali, Hazrat Hassan, Hazrat Hussain) and 1 female (i.e. Hazrat Fatima). Now if wives of Holy Prophet are included in Ahlulbait, then majority goes to female so according to Arabic law KUNNA should be used in the end of this verse as it is used in the starting of this verse. But we see that ALLAH (s.w.t.) has used KUM, that means Allah (s.w.t.) is pointing out only Panjetan not the wives. And says that"

"I (Allah) has decided to keep all impurity (Najasat) away from you O Ahl-e-Bait (as) as it is right to keep. [Chap.33:Verse.33] (The verse of Purity) [Chap.33 Verse 33)..]"

This verse was revealed in praise of the Panjetan i.e. Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, Hasan & Husain.(as)

Mauta of Imam Malik Bin Anas,
Sahih of Bukhari,
Sahih of Muslim,
Sunan of Abu Dawud and Sijistani,
Sunan of Tirmidhi,
Jam'u'l-Usul) Referring to the holy verse of Mubahila (Chp.3 : Verse 61)

Our Sunni great scholars, such as:

Imam Fakhru'd-Din Razi,
Imam Abu Ishaq Tha'labi,
Jalalu'd-Din Suyuti,
Qazi Baidhawi,
Jarullah Zamakhshari,
Muslim bin Hujjaj,

and many others, have written, that the Commander of the Faithful, ALI, FATIMA, HASSAN and HUSSAIN were spiritually the most exalted persons of the whole of creation and the most beloved ones of the Holy Prophet(pbuh), and says that, this verse is the strongest proof of the excellence of the Panjetan, the five persons who had gathered under a blanket (Hadees-e-Kisa) with the Holy Prophet(pbuh). More over during the event of Kisa (blanket), when these five persons (Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, Hassan & Hussain) were under the blanket, H. Prophet (P) refuse his wife Umm-e-Salama (ra) to enter in Kisa (blanket) by saying that, you are on the right path but not among us Ahl-e-Bait.

-Refrence-

Sahih Tirmidhi,
Imam Tha'labi in his Tafsir,
Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal in his Musnad,
and Ibn Athir in his Jam'u'l-Usul).

Relation doesn’t makes any difference because Islam only recognise those who are pious. It is not necessary that the wife of Prophets should be recognised because Allah says in Quran-e-Majeed:

Allah sets forth an example to those who disbelieve, the wife of Noah (as) and the wife of Lot (as): They were both under two of our righteous servants, but they acted treacherously towards them, so they availed them naught against Allah and it was said: Enter both the fire with those who enter." [Chap.66:Verse 10]

Logical Reasons

A wife remains with her husband for a certain period, but when he divorces her, she goes to her father's home, joins her mother's family, and is completely cut off from her husband. The Ahl-e-Bait are those members of the family of the Holy Prophet for whom sadaqah (charity) is forbidden. They will not be separated from the Ahl-e-Bait wherever they go." (Ref.: Sahih Muslim and Jam'u'l-Usul)

When Hazrat Fatima (P), had asked for Fadak (the property gifted to her by Holy Prophet) from Hazrat Abu Bakr during his Caliphate. He said, that he had heard Holy Prophet saying:

"After me, all my properties is Sadaqah for my Ummah, no one is my inheriter."

Sahih Bukhari Vol.4, Book 53, No.325:

# Vol.5, Book 59, N.368 & 546
# Vol.8, Book 80, No.718
Sahih Muslim Book 019, No. 4352 & 4431)

This statement of Hazrat Abu Bakr clearly proves that wives are not included in Ahlulbait, because Sadaqah is haram for Ahlulbait. History shows that none of the wives of Holy Prophet deposited the properties of Holy Prophet (P) after his death, but they used it. If they would have been included in Ahlulbait, they might have avoided using sadaqah for themselves. Above references clearly proves that, wives of Holy Prophet (p) are not included in Ahlulbait, if it is not then answer, Why Allah has used the word KUM instead of KUNNA?

Why we Sunnis put the names of Panjetan and avoid the names of wives on the banners during the time of Milaad-un-Nabi? Why were the wives of Holy Prophet (p) dropped for the Mubahila and only Panjetan were selected? Why Umm-e-Salma was not allowed to enter in the blanket to join Panjetan?

Brother Amir and others... I am very much sorry if my words have hurt any one of you. My intension is only to share the truth because Allah says in the Quan al-Hakim:

"Most surely man is in loss, except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on eachother truth, and enjoin on eachother patience." [Chap.013 Verse 2/3]

I request your good selves to guide me if I am wrong.

Wassalm,

Abdullah

Jibbi,
First of all the gramitical arabic you described is wrong: The fact of the matter is: when femelles are solely addressed ten the KUNNA is used to spell that the addresses were only women but if ONE male is among many femelles the KUM will be used. For example if you enter a house where all your sisters, aunts, mother and you brother are seated you should say: Assalmu AlaiKUM and not Assalamu AlaiKUNNA. If you say Assalamu Alaikunna that EXCLUDES your brother but if you say Assalamu Alaikum that INCLUDES your female relatives. Get the fact straight.

On another note: If you accept the fact that whatever was left by the prophet is sadaka, then why Shia make the fuss about FADAD, Fatima, Abu Bakr and Ali (r anhum)?

Salam Alaikum...

Bro KI,
Don't mix the regular formal terms of Arabic language with its grammer. The example you provided cant work because majority may be males or females,we will always say Assalamu AlaiKUM,not Assalamu AlaiKUNNA!

Suppose if your 3 brothers sitting in a room alongwith your some other males, say, uncles and also your mother,,then when you enter, you'll always say Asslamu AlaiKUM,not Assalamu AlaiKUNNA...

Because it is sepcial term used to send blessings on eachother..

As far Fadak issue...Remember that it is an answer of sunni to a sunni...and this sunni exclude wives..understood!

Wasslam

Jibbi,
We can disagree on things BUT ON ARABIC GRAMMAR AND I AM AN ARAB AND I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. YOUR grammar put forward is wrong 100%.
This the real meaning of the verses you are reffering to:

6. The Prophet is closer to the believers than their ownselves[], and his wives are their (believers') mothers (as regards respect and marriage). And blood relations among each other have closer personal ties in the Decree of Allâh (regarding inheritance) than (the brotherhood of) the believers and the Muhajirűn (emigrants from Makkah, etc.), except that you do kindness to those brothers (when the Prophet SAW joined them in brotherhood ties). This has been written in the (Allâh's Book of Divine) Decrees

32. O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allâh), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner.

33. And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance, and perform As-Salât (Iqamât*as*Salât), and give Zakât and obey Allâh and His Messenger. Allâh wishes only to remove Ar*Rijs (evil deeds and sins, etc.) from you, O members of the family (of the Prophet SAW), and to purify you with a thorough purification.
(6/32/33/33).

As to 6/33, I would like to tell me if your mother is not part of your household?

as to 32/33, in arabic the "Kunna" is used to describe that Allah is talking only about the wives of the prophet.

as to 33/33, up to ...,and give zakat and obey Allah and His messenger, again Kunna is used because the speach is always directed to the wives of the prophet (saw).
From Allah wishes only to remove arrijs......, KUM IS USED because the speach is directed not only to the wives of the prophet alone, but to include the whole household: Fatima, Hassan, Hussain....etc.

I know Shia will not stop to do anything to proove they right and the other are wrong.
As mentioned to Mohamed, why do not you think about the creed of shia itself to compare to the holly Quran and see what is what instead of spending all your energy on things you have no control over?
The sabaha, the wives and the entire family of the prophet (saw) and all those living in that era are gone and Allah (swt) will judge them on judgement day for their deeds.
A lot of things do not add up in your creed, for example how could you possibly say that your imams are better than the prophets of banu Israel? Is khomeini better than Ibrahim (AS)? Is not this shirk and kufr?

Fine but it works both ways. This forum is full of anti-shia threads which are trying to imply the shias are outside of Islam. Whereas the shia members are only trying to justify their believes by quoting from sunni sources (which they are entitled to do).

I don't see any reason why shias should not be allowed to promoted shia-ism on this site, just as I don't see any reason why sunnis should not be allowed to promote sunni-ism. There is no harm in debating on these differences. However, it is wrong to post "lies" against any group (for example anti-shias reports that have been copy/pasted from the Internet). Before posting, everyone is responsible for checking the accuracy of the information that they give.

I can't comment on the issue of the Qur'an verses because I DON'T know arabic.
