I once also thought that it was not Islamic. Now I am not as sure because of the fact that Market forces would control your revenue and you might suffer losses as well as profits. I have not really heard anything from Scholars regarding this, so can't eally provide a definite answer. Hope one of the other brothers and sisters can help.

Perhaps one could put into context the use of interest payments. In the times of the Prophet (pbuh) the banks didn't give interest. i.e. you didn't put your cash in the banks and then get an annual interest of 3% or whatever.

But what the banks did do was they charged interest for borrowing. This was what was haraaam. Ppl charging an interest for lending money to others.

So if you were to borrow a friend some money and then expected the money back plus interest then this would be haram.I hope this helps in your understanding. I will try to look up to see whether gaining interest from financial investments is haram but I would doubt it.

Stock mean shares/partnership. Like if the company do good then my shares in company will also got more value.
Like for example now if I have 6000 stocks and there value is only 3$/stock and if the company do good then the stocks can easily cross 150$ or so /stocks. So I can easily got half and million $ if I stay with the company till complete 4 years if I leave early then I will get some % of my total options...(I will never stay with them for 4 year though ..... )
Also if company do bad then it can even got closed too and stock can go to 0$....

I think Mhnew did understand stock well. I also know that it is not at all interest and it is partnership. But some people say that it does not fullfill some rules of partnership. Like according to islam I have to know all the partner in the company, and some other such rules .... I am not sure that either issues like these really exist or people made those issues.

i also had the same problem a couple of years ago, i dint no whether it was haram or not? So i asked a few people in 'high' places, so to speak, and they all said that it was ok! reason being (to cut long story short) that you were actually "buying and selling"!

so as far as i know its ok! but still im open to different views!
