Assalam-o-Alliakum

If any one can answer that

1) Can you do Wasoo with socks on? Mean in USA people do Wasoo with socks on there feet and I have to take sock off and all white people start look at me with strange eyes when I am doing Wasoo. So is that allowed to do Wasoo with socks on (people here only do action of feet washing)

2) Can Jumma Kutbah can in English? In USA they give Kutbah in English where many people say as Kutbah is Faraz in Jumma so it can be only in Arabic (as Namaz can not be in English) and they say that Kutbah can be in some specified topics only ...

Any help/answers will be wellcome..

This is a very interesting topic and one which I would like to find the answer to.

However, in my opinion I find it quite bizarre that they do wudhu without removing their socks. Although I have read that one can do wudhu with sand.

There is a certain advaNTAGE OF DOING KHUTBAH IN eNGLISH AS MANY PPL don't understand Arabic and therefore are missing out on the full meaning of Jumma. Just my personal opinions and not based on knowledge of the rulings.

As Salamu Alaikum,

Answer to your first question:
Yes you can do wudu over your socks as long as you did Wudu before you wore the socks. Mostly people who follow the Shafi madhab do it but it is allowed. I recently asked a scholar educated at University of Medina about it and he said that people actually did this even in the Prophet's time. According to him, socks made out of clothe were used even then.
Note, many people from the Subcontinent say that you can do wudu over the socks only if it is a leather socks. You can follow that understanding also. This is one of those cases where everyone is right.
My advice would be to not abuse this rule. If you have an opportunity and place to properly wash your foot, please avail it. I have seen at Musallahs in NA where some Arab brothers keep emphasizing that you can do wudu over the socks. I understand but there is nothing wrong with just doing it if you have the time and place.

Answer to your second question:
Yes you can give Khutba in English. It is alright. There was a conference in Saudi Arabia where representative scholars from Muslim countries attended and it was agreed that you can give khutba in your local language in combination with Arabic.
In our countries, normally the Imam gives a lecture in his local language, then first Azan is given, people pray Sunnah prayers, second Adhan is given and Imam gives Arabic khutba and leads Salah afterwords.
According to many scholars giving a seperate lecture in local tongue is not desirable, rather give your Khutbah mixed in Arabic and local language. That way your Khutbah doesn't become stale. The khutbah is supposed to be the State of Community address for all in the community. You are not supposed to be repeating the same text everytime like we do.
As for the matter of Fard, the salah has to be in Arabic but the consensus is that the Khutbah need not necssarily be but it is preferable. As I said before these is the speech that is supposed to guide the community for the next week untill next Jamah prayer. If we don't understand it, there wouldn't be any point to it. But it is our responsibility to try to pick up on our Arabic.

This is from my knowledge attained through listening and reading through the analysis by various scholars.
If any good comes of this analysis, it is for the sake of Allah (SWT) and any wrong is for me to be accountable for. May Allah forgive us all.

Jazakumullah Khairan

tell me about it.

Take of your shoes. Stand on them. balance yourself. take of the socks. Put them at a dry place. Put your foot on the basin. Wash. Reverse your steps.

For a gora guy with no idea about us that would seem insane.

So true Sis.

Its easier when they don't know you. But I surely don't want this to be the first impression for some of my friends. Have to give dawah to them in the right amount.

But you are right, should not be ashamed. May Allah forgive if that was the case for me.

Allah hafez
