Hezbollah chief recounts how Mossad was captured

ABCNEWs BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) _ Hezbollah
chief Sheik Hassan Nasrallah described
the capture of an Israeli man by his
guerrillas, depicting him on Monday as a
spy they lured into Lebanon for a meeting
with an apparent informant. The capture
of Elhanan Tennenbaum, first announced
by Nasrallah on Sunday, brought to four
the number of Israelis held by the
Iranian-backed Hezbollah. The guerrillas grabbed three
Israeli soldiers near the Lebanese-Israeli border on Oct. 7.
In Israel, Cabinet minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer dismissed
Nasrallah"s claim as a "fantastical story" and described the
captive as an ordinary businessman. Israeli officials said he
served in the army reserves. Tennenbaum"s daughter
called his abduction "despicable," and appealed for his
release Monday. Blinking back tears, Keren Tennenbaum
read a statement to reporters outside her Tel Aviv home.
She said her father is "a sick man and needs medication."
Media reports have said Tennenbaum suffers from chronic
asthma. "We will not rest until we see him safe and sound
at home," she said. Nasrallah"s news conference coincided
with the 14th anniversary of the capture in Lebanon of
Israeli airman Ron Arad, who was shot down during a
bombing mission over Lebanon. Israelis released blue
balloons on Monday to mark the occasion. The Hezbollah
chief denied that his group had Arad or was withholding
information on his fate. Israeli TV stations broadcast much
of the Nasrallah news conference with Hebrew subtitles,
including the part when the Hezbollah leader addressed
Israelis directly and told them their government was
indifferent to the fate of the captives. "Your government
has not made enough of an effort to bring back your sons,
or even to find out about their fate," Nasrallah said. In what
Israeli commentators described as psychological warfare,
Nasrallah has carefully doled out information about
Tennenbaum. On Sunday, he announced only that an Israeli
colonel was in Hezbollah"s hands, sending Israelis on a
frantic search for a missing officer. On Monday, he
provided more details, gleefully dwelling on the possible
different pronunciations of Tennenbaum"s first name.
Without giving specific figures, Nasrallah said he wanted to
swap Tennenbaum and the three soldiers for Arabs held in
Israeli jails, the remains of dead guerrillas and information
on the fate of missing fighters. U.N. Secretary-General
Kofi Annan and others have said the capture of
Tennenbaum, a 54-year-old Tel Aviv resident, amounted to
an abduction that violated international laws. Nasrallah
dismissed those condemnations and said Tennenbaum
worked for the Mossad, Israel"s external spy agency. "This
is not an abduction," he said. "When you have an officer
with the rank of colonel who has worked for a long time for
the Mossad and wanted to penetrate Hezbollah at a high
level and comes to Lebanon of his own free will ... it is the
legitimate right of the resistance to capture and detain him."
Neither Nasrallah nor the Israelis said when Tennenbaum
was arrested. Nasrallah said a member of Hezbollah living
abroad was approached by the Israeli man to spy on
Hezbollah. With the knowledge of the Hezbollah leadership,
Tennenbaum was fed information about the group that
Nasrallah described as important but harmless in order to
establish credibility. The Israeli was later persuaded to
come to Lebanon for a meeting with the Hezbollah contact,
he said. Tennenbaum flew into Beirut from Brussels,
Belgium, entering Lebanon with a non-Israeli passport that
Hezbollah determined was forged, Nasrallah said. Lebanon,
a country technically at war with Israel, does not allow
Israelis to travel here and prohibits any contact with them.
Nasrallah did not say exactly how much time lapsed
between the time the unnamed Hezbollah member was
approached and the capture of the Israeli man. On Sunday,
Nasrallah appeared on television across the Arab world
announcing the capture. His words, at a conference of
Arab and Islamic leaders who are staunch opponents of
Israel, drew applause from the audience of nearly 200
people. Prime Minister Salim Hoss, who was sitting next to
Nasrallah, joined in the applause several seconds after it
began. Hoss said Monday that "Israel is required to free
our prisoners. This is the solution."

officials said on Monday that Hizbollah
leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah may be
telling the truth when he says an Israeli
businessman and reserve officer was
lured to Lebanon and captured there.
Israel initially said that Elhanan
Tannenbaum, 54, a reserve colonel, had
gone missing in Switzerland and been
kidnapped in Europe, branding it a flagrant violation of
international law. Deputy Prime Minister Binyamin
Ben-Eliezer told Israel"s Channel Two television:
"Nasrallah is generally known as a very trustworthy person,
so I am surprised by this whole fantastic story."

Lieutenant-Colonel Udi Levy, told Reuters in an interview:
"We have to check carefully what Nasrallah is saying
because Nasrallah doesn"t lie. Nasrallah is very honest."
The Israeli government has insisted that Tannenbaum had
no connection with the security services. But the Hizbollah
chief said Tannenbaum was working for the Mossad
intelligence agency and had been trying to recruit a
high-level Hizbollah member. Tannenbaum"s daughter,
Keren, turned to Israel"s two television stations Monday in
a plea to help her father. "I am not really in an emotional
state to speak now," she said, swallowing to hold back
tears. "My father was kidnapped by the Hizbollah. A
terrible, unconscionable, inhumane act. "My father is a sick
man who needs medication...I call on all the sources that
can lend a hand to help bring him home as quickly as
possible." Nasrallah said the Israeli had flown to Lebanon
from Brussels recently with a forged foreign passport to
meet the Hizbollah member with whom he had established
contact through a mediator. He said Tannenbaum was
followed by Hizbollah"s security service and captured when
he arrived in Lebanon. ISRAELIS ACCUSE IRAN Israeli
officials accused Iran of pulling the strings. Deputy
Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh told CNN it was part of a
"worldwide campaign of terrorism orchestrated by Iran."
Levy said Hizbollah received extensive financial, logistical
and diplomatic help from Iran and had built up an
international network, strongest in South America and
Southeast Asia. Groups close to Hizbollah were involved in
a wave of kidnappings of foreigners in Lebanon in the
1980s and Iran, which founded and funds the Lebanese
Shi"ite group, was involved in international negotiations for
their release. In the 1990s, the organization focused on
guerrilla warfare to drive Israeli occupation forces out of
southern Lebanon, culminating in Israel"s unilateral
withdrawal in May and the collapse of its proxy militia, the
South Lebanon Army. Since May, Hizbollah has focused on
translating its aura of heroism into more power in Lebanese
politics. It has met only limited success because Syria, the
power broker in Lebanon, forced it into an electoral alliance
with the Amal movement. Hizbollah guerrillas captured
three Israeli soldiers on the Lebanese border on Oct. 7,
prompting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi to rush
to Damascus and Beirut last week. Kharrazi said he saw
no imminent exchange of the three for 19 Lebanese
prisoners still held by Israel, saying a swap should involve
all Arab prisoners held by the Jewish state. Iran says it
gives Hizbollah only "humanitarian" assistance. ^

Jewish belief and claimed that the cure for the Jewish problem is to
have a strong state with a strong army. This exchange of the sacred
belief for nationalism is destroying the holy essence of the Jewish

spilling of Jewish blood would strengthen their demand of the nations
for the creation of their state. Their motto was Rak B'Dam (only by
blood will we get the land).

Rabbis warned of danger

All of the greatest rabbinical sages warned of the dangers Zionism would
bring. The euphoria over Zionism and all its paraphernalia, i.e. army,
embassies, flag, etc. is, according to the Torah, 'the work of Satan' to
test the faith. But the true faith of Jews has not changed and 'peace
talks', past or present, cannot change it. The belief is that not only
can there be no real peace as long as the Zionist state exists but worse

lived in Palestine in peace and harmony with the Palestinians until the

The true Jews are not just against the occupation of the West Bank and
Gaza with the daily oppression and killing, but are also opposed to the
