bismil rabil noor,
assalamu alaikum,
I fail to see your point. If you intend to claim that hejab is worn by women by force then it is true and false. certainly, some are forced to wer it. however, most wear it at free will. similarly, there are many cases where force is used to stop women wearing hejab.
the cultural force called 'fashion' is a social anti hejab force. any woman wearing hejab under such pressure must be doing so with great conviction. look at some examples of anti hejab movement.
1-turkey, after mostafa kamal ata turk's hard work and many years of secularism and eradication of islam yet many turned to hejab. the force in that case was anti hejab and nt pro. they banned hejab from university campus and recently from the parliament. do you fail to see that?
2-egypt, in 1995 they made a law that school/university girls wanting to wear hejab must have parents approval. this meant that the parents had to go to ministry and say why they wanted their daughters to wear hejab! in egypt a trip to ministry and signing the paper was not a simple act and indeed feared by many.
3-iran, the father of the shah forcefully removed hejab and even hats from women by using the police and military forces. in order to search for islamists the civil service were ordered to have parties and if anyone made excuses and did not attend to class them as islamists remove them from office. needless to say that they had to attend with wives without hejab.
you see, always it has been the anti islamic forces who have tried to force muslims out of their belief and practice and not the other way.
today we see that many muslims inthe west and muslim countries are turning to islam and hejab is one of the most powerfull symbols of that return. the war against hejab has been lost this has to be admitted.
whilst the non muslim woman has to display herself for the lust of the men in order to get a job or be approved the muslims woman displays her mind and not body. if a lusfull man want to look at the body of a woman then he must find comfort elsewhere. the muslim women are not for show. indeed any women, had it not been for the propoganda machine, would follow suit and stop being used for her flesh. i cannot see what one would have against hejab, it is simple, muslim women's body is not for show.
wasalam,
mahdi

Zahra, check the thread. These are your words. And now you claim that no one forces a Muslim woman to wear scarves. Can we stop kidding now ?
Prbth, i know u didnt take these words literally, u knew we were just having a laugh. I think u have made your point: unwilligness to respect an Islamic view, be it from a man or a woman.

Even many Hindu women used to cover their hair in the past as a sign of modesty; in some areas of the sub-continent they still do. Please try to understand the implications of their actions rather than jump to conclusions just to have a laugh at women covering themselves. Try no to brainswash urself with the material u get from the mass media. Think of the pride these women have in upholding their dignity, whether they are Muslims or Hindus.

Salaam Mahdi, u forgot to mention FRANCE in ur list of countries which have taken anti-Islamic measures to ban the wearing of headscarves. Throughout schools in that country Muslim girls are banned from wearing the headscarf/hajab. Christian and Jewish gals on the other hand are allowed to wear their Crosses and David's star necklaces. And guess where this is happening? In the heart of the so-called Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite: FRANCE!

How could the headscarf be a threat to France's national security? I am sure some models even wear them in fashion shows! Dont be surprised to see the use of umbrellas being banned oneday cos its over someone's head! Fools...

Why dont _you_ check the thread and make sure you understand my point?

Mystique, straying from your initial point a little, I ll tell you what's worse...
When muslim sisters look down on those sisters who do wear the hijab. I got this in the past when I started uni. The muslim sisters seemed to avoid me more than the white ppl in the classes. I realised this was because they knew in the back of their minds that they should have been doing what I was...It was so blatant they couldnt handle it...

Whats wrong ? Couldnt find anything else on the net to back up your point?

Why dont _you_ stop kidding yourself and face up to the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion around the world and that the majority of the converts are women. This is even after they have been exposed to all the freedom that they could possibly wish for!
