This will be my final post in this thread.
Muhammad, If you've concluded from my post that all Hindus are atheists, then it will be a BIG BIG mistake. Hindus are definitely believers and very religious, at least 99% of them. An overwhelming majority of them are idol worshippers. However some of them like the Arya Samajis are monotheists just like you. They do not believe in idol worship. Only a few saints of the Vedic age were atheists. They have their own place in Hinduism too (though not very prominent and respected). But that is a different story. As an athiest I find my thoughts in harmony with them. And atheists are maybe 1% of the Hindu population. Hinduism does not shun us for that, it only underlines its tolerance. But if an atheist Muslim does not believe in Allah, Islam will immediately show him the door. Atheists exists in all societies and all religions. Only Hinduism and Buddhism have direct reference to atheism and acknowledges it presence while other religions like Islam are fiercely against its very concept. Now the answer for Boy 4from Bengal. I believe in India, my country, my identity is Indian. A quick snap of info for our dork moderator. 1959 (maybe some other date ??). Francis Watson and James Crick discovers the double helical structure of DNA, the key component of life, the building block of any living being. They were subsequently awarded Nobel Prize. Earlier Stanley Miller shows how life originated in earth by his silent electric discharge experiment simulating the primitive earth environment. This was the final nail in the coffin of "Theory Of Special Creation", that is humans were created by a Supreme Creator. More on it in the other thread. Bye. |

Okay then Indian, I think I understand the situation - You are a Hindu that doesn't believe in God or worship any idols (as there would be no reason for you to worship idols unless you believed in a god or gods).
So based on your premise that there is no god, why accept Hinduism, Islam, Christianity or any other religion? I don't see how you can defend any of these religions, as to you their believes are foundationless and only invented by people. Just because your parents may be Hindus is meaningless in this context (they could be anything, this fact is arbitary). ??? [This message has been edited by muhammad (edited 15 September 2000).] |
