Peace be unto all people who follow Allah's Guidance

Confusion between Culture and Islam.

Which of these are Islamic and which is culture?

Weddings
Eid.
Birthdays
Christmas
Parties
Anniversaries

For indefinite period we Bangalis have difficulty in dealing with our culture and our faith
The clear way of practising Islam is to avoid confusing ourselves by our Bangladeshi culture and our religion Islam.

There are many of us whom are practising our culture more then our religion, and need to free themselves from the misguidance of false religious practices.

Whether we realise it or not we are committing a great sin that will be passed on to generation to generation.

If we are not involved in the effort to respond to the misinformation passed on by culture, then how else will we respond to the emimies of Islam. (please read NUR’s topic The Quran is Protected from alterations and the reply by Born-again to find out what I mean!)

The average citizen in the West does not realise this, since they are often simply manipulated by what they absorb from media.

As many of you are aware, a wide range of attacks has been made on Islam in this BD.COM. And Dealing with these issues is so difficult because, some of us are blinded by cultural bigotry

Even though we are born in Muslim families our culture is exposure to incorrect teachings, and a lot of it are idolatrous practices.
And because we are brought up with this culture, that alters our rational state of Imam.
Thus the Truth becomes clouded and evil practices made to seem good.

The student of life the Oshik-kitoe

(Please answer the Question above and Insha -Allah we well chat about it in detail if you wish)

Salaam

on a related point, to many bangalis anything is acceptable so long as it looks bangali...i think we all need Islamic education thru proper curriculum based schools so we can at least learn what is culture and what is Islam. One classic example is touching the elder's feet and calling it 'Salaam'. Our ppl can be thicker thou - check this out: u leave ur prayer mat laid on the floor and ur relative who thinks he knows all suddenly says 'the satan will pray on it, so u shouldnt leave it in the open, unless u r praying on it'. now that is culture, ignorance, lack of knowledge. My argument is if Satan prays on the mat, it is a good thing, because he never prays! Our people......are some people.........

There you go Oshikitoe, he will never stop. He is a fool but he doesnt realise he is a big time fool. The one inside him wont let him rest until he defeats me.

Are you going to give me some of the medication you been taking at the mental institution that you set up and where you are now a patient?

Listen, I can teach you a good lesson outside b.com. then you would have to listen to rock music on a cheap tape and walk through the streets of East London asking for business...

Now brother Oshikitoe, your topic is sounds interesting, but I havnt had a chance to read it properly. This is bcos the third person has invited me to say evil things......

The only thing on your list, Oshik-kitoe bhai, that is remotely religious is Eid. Even that has become a social event....it has become more important to dress up like dolls, and get the most expensive dress....and buy the most expensive bull (for Korbani), throwing iftaar parties (even though you don't even fast!) than the Eid prayers, ramadaan..or even zakaat... It is a shame indeed.

Birthdays, parties, anniversaries are not religious at all.....they are just human inventions to escape the boredom of everyday life....unless of course we say a special prayer on your birthday/anniversary/party and thank Allah from the bottom of our hearts for sending us to this world....but then most of us are too busy making celebration plans to do that!

Thank you (Shikkhitoe) Oshik-kitoe bhai for your topic....hopefully many of us will learn to praise Allah more often for everything he has given us though our prayers.
Cheers!

That is very true brother WAIS.. long as we see something Bengali we seem to accept it for e.g.
Indian films which have been a major misguidance as it looks Bangali we seem to follow the actors as idols, and do what they do.
Dress like them,

Sing like them,

Dance like them,
And even like to smell like them!
(By wearing the same perfume they advertise)

Only because they look bangali.

True again…. Sometimes, don’t you think it helps when you intentionally leave the prayer mat open for others to say that silly remark,

I find that this is a good ice-breaker to access them with this information.
And sometimes that leads to other questions that also helps to distinguish the difference between culture & Islam.

Brother WAIS if someone say.. like your elders did some idolatrous practices would you confront them of their none Islamic behaviour? Or just ignore them.

Salaam
