Speakers at a discussion in the city of Dhaka in the first week of July accused the government of conspiring against Islam by trying to slash Islamic education in the country.
Organised by the World Muslim Cultural Society, the discussion meeting on "The future of Madrasah Education in Bangladesh" was addressed by former President and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, JAGPA chief Shafiul Alam Pradhan, PNP chief Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu and Gias Kamal Chowdhury.
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said only Islam can protect our national sovereignty and it was the religious duty of the Muslims to join the movement to remove the present government which continued to oppose the Islamic values, Islamic education and Islamic culture in the country.
"I had declared Islam as the state religion to uphold our own culture and heritage which were different from those of West Bengal," Ershad said adding that the nation must once again be united on the basis of Islam.
He labelled Awami League as an enemy of Islam and the nation, saying that they came to power by putting scarf on the head and holding 'tasbih' in the hand merely to deceive the people.
He posed a question as to where from they got the courage to ask for abandonment of Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim from the Constitution and Alhaj or Mohammad from the names of Muslims. The people must not forgive them and the Almighty Allah will definitely take them into cognisance for disobeying the Islam.
He also mentioned that it was Awami Leaguers who had grabbed the property of Hindus and they would not repeal the Vested Property Act.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulna Nizami said that Islam always favored and ensured rights of the people of other religion and protected their rights as the fellow citizen of a country. There was no problem for the Hindus or Buddhists during the seven hundred years of Muslim rule in this region, he said.
Speakers also said that none would be allowed to conspire against madrasah education since it was the means of spreading Islam and the knowledge after the advent of the great religion of peace, the speakers said.

It is comon to hear that in Bangladesh there is 'no suitable candidate' or they are all just as bad as each other etc.

But one thing that is one of the most precious part of our heritage is Islam. No leader, no matter how corrupt they are said to have been had ever dared injure the presence of Islam in our country, until now.

Should we tolerate this? Can any government commit a more serious crime?

put simply AL is sucking up to Indian demands cos they need money to fund their next and future election campaigns.

let me give u an example. the finance minister some time ago decided to disagree with certain proposals for the country in an IMF meeting because he thought it would be to the disadvantage to the country's economic health, however, he failed to prevent the open access road of 'transshipment' from India to Bdesh, which is argued by AL as being beneficial to the country because it will apparently increase 'trade'. IF the IMF decides to stop giving loans to Bdesh the whole country will be in a very undesirable state to put it politely but if India didn't enjoy the above benefits of exporting to the country, Bdesh, will in no way be at a disadvantage, partly because it has NOTHING to lose. Basically, the current government is so full of thick people that it would do anything to please India but almost nothing to truly benefit the country and its citizens, be they religious or not.
