Christian cemetery vandalised in southern India HYDERABAD, India, June 27 (Reuters) - Vandals have struck at a Christian cemetery in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and destroyed cross on two graves, police said on Tuesday. A senior police official told Reuters the cemetery in Vanasthalipuram on the outskirts of the state capital, Hyderabad, was probably attacked about two weeks ago, but the graveyard committee only filed a complaint on Monday. The vandalism was noticed when Vanasthalipuram Christian Graveyard Committee Secretary K. Joseph visited the graveyard on Monday. According to the complaint, unidentified vandals damaged four graves in the Christian cemetery. One of the graves was completely damaged, the cover of another grave removed and crosses on two damaged. Last Friday police reported that vandals damaged crosses on 40 graves in a Christian cemetery in another Andhra Pradesh town, Rajahmundry. The attacks on the graves are the latest in a series of attacks on the country's Christian community which makes up less than two percent of India's one billion people. Churches in Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka states suffered bomb attacks on June 8 and a Roman Catholic priest was murdered in the northern town of Mathura two days earlier. On Monday, Pope John Paul urged Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who was in Italy for a two-day state visit, to guarantee religious freedoms in his predominantly Hindu country. "This government is determined to ensure security for all, more particularly the minorities," Home (Interior) Minister Lal Krishna Advani told reporters on Tuesday. He added that the government had sought a report from the states where the Christian community had been under attack. "A meeting of all state chief ministers is being called by the prime minister in August to discuss internal security," Advani said. Missionaries in India often blame right-wing Hindu groups-- some of which are considered close to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which heads the ruling coalition -- for the attacks. Hindu organisations deny the accusations and say Christian missionaries are forcing tribal people in remote areas to convert. |

Abdurahman,
What about the Muslims persecuting Christians? You are equally as guilty! Look at Indonesia, Egypt, Pakistan to name a few countries and oh I forgot Saudi Arabia the Arab gracious lot. It is the times of the Gentiles as the Bible says so they can do these things as prophesied in the Bible but when the Lord comes high on the cloud then you will all answer for your crimes. bornagain |

Salaam to all,
Born_Again you should be renamed boring_again! Joy Hind you said and I quote: "Most of this are bullocks" (tut tut tut - such bad language!) So does this mean some of it is true? Anyway I have seen a debate on Zee TV between a hindu "priest" (if I may call him that!) and a Christian priest and the hindu guy did not only NOT deny the burning of churches etc, but was actually justifying it! And he got support from the majority hindu audience! |

Joy, all can do is insult people - no reason no logic! It is clear to all the readers that NUR and AR are vastly superior to you in the knowledge that they posses, so why you even bother writing to this site is a mistery. For the benefit of us all, please can you find a more constructive way to spend your time!
