Is there such a thing as being ugly?

I was in a bangladesh chat room this afternoon and we were having a discussion on beauty. The person i was speaking to was pretty depressed, worried about his looks. I said to him that "Beauty comes from within", and I told him that when Allah made us humans, he said to each and everyone: "I have never made anyone as beautiful as you" now what does that say about people judging each other by the way they look. As the saying goes "Never judge a book by its cover"

A lot of the time when people are worried about their looks they are being vain!

Of course there is such a thing as beauty, but it says in the Quran,

when you think to yourself that you are less beautiful than someone else then know that there is someone less beautiful than you.

This verse actually has a deeper meaning too, but I hope it makes the basic point!
