Shed some light into this, someone. It is impossible to find a perfume without alcohol and most of us put it on (knowing or unknowingly). But in Islam, we know what is told about alcohol. I don't mean Attar.

I didn't want to put a new topic so I will just post it here. Is there anyone here actually communicating from Bangladesh? Just curious.

Perfume /fragrance of any substance - say, of commercial body-sprays - are due to presence of aromatic compounds (ref. rganic chemistry) which are highly volatile in nature even under normal temp.and pressure. When aromatic compounds vaporise from a substance and reach our nostril, we feel the `smell'.
Aromatic compounds are highly soluble in oil, alcohol and - to much lesser extent - in water. In nature, aromatic componds (fragrance imparting agent) are normally found to be dissolved in oil-body of veg.substances, e.g., rose-fragrance dissolved in rose-oil.
For commercial use of aromatic compounds (a.c) - say, for the purpose of me trying to attract Farhana - it (a.c) need to be made available in stable condition; and hence, it may be available dissolved either in oil or in alcohol with which a.c forms a chemical bond. Now, who wants to stain one's cloth with oil? Thus, for commercial purpose, alcohol remain the only carrying agent for a.c - the perfumes.
Water is poor carrier for a.c. - forming weak bond. Less quantity (ppm) of a.c. should get dissolved in water, and the resulting solution is much less stable - a commercial loss !!!
