Assalamu'alaikum brothers and sisters,
basically i was just arguing wiv this boy about this topic and he doesnt believe that music is haram. Now correct me if im wrong but the way i know it is that music is haram and the only music that it halal is nasheed as long as only drums are used.

Now this boy doesn't believe me on this and he said that he will only believe me if i can provide him with any sort of evidence. so i wud really appreciate it if anyone can explain why it is haram and most importantly provide me with sum sort of evidence. i will be able to check your responses on monday cos i dont hav internet access at home anymore unfortunately.
i would really appreciate it if anyone can help me and please provide me with as much information as you can.

jazakallah for you time guys.
salaam

Salam Muslima

I've always grown up thinking music is haram, but nobody could ever tell me why...

Standard reponse is: yes music is haram. But I don't buy that... so perhaps I'm not the best person to respond...

Gets the ball rolling anyway...

Was'salam.

Salam all

i have this book which talks about music and islam, generally the gist is that ceratin songs and music is 'halal' while most are not and there are strong hadiths which says music takes one away from purity
Imam Gazalli says that anything that take one away from the path of Allah (swt) is haram even if one is praying salat (with the intention of getting attention of other people).

My views are that people do listen to music and its going to be very difficult to get people off it so the solution is to have alternatives...

Salam

What I heard

I asked a Muslim doctor that I work with and trust if music is haram. He said, "Actually Jody there is some very beautiful music composed by Muslims. It's eastern music so I don't know if you'd like it. Music is only interpreted as being forbidden by the Taliban Types and as I told you before they aren't realy Muslim."
This is what I heard. It seems that's how liberal most of the western Muslims are where I work.

As far as I am aware based on the reading ive done on this subject, there isnt a single verse in the quran that prohibits music and so you gotta wonder how it became an issue of haram and halal in the first place.... as long as people make sure they aint listening to trash that promotes bad behaviour or a bad message, then i personally doubt that theres anything wrong with it!
