Is it manadtory in Islam to be slave of Arabs??? and forget your own culture ??
you can hold on to culture as much as you like, but you cannot stop it from changing.

if culture did not change we would all still be cave men, grunting, and hunting and gathering.

we are not slaves of arabs, but we see it respectful to have islamic names, because religion is central to our lives.

being bengali-muslims, our culture is such that we must balance culture with religion to preserve our identities.

if culture did not change we wouldnt have religion as we know we would worship primitive icons such as the sun, moon, trees, water etc.

Religion shapes culture, but being a muslim we cannot allow culture to shape religion, as we beleive islam is the word of God, undiluted, never changed- never to be changed.

To make it illegal !!

You did not reply - Is it necessary to take Arabic names to become Muslims ??? Then why don't you talk in Arabic and leave the Beautiful Bengali language for Hindus who have nurtured and made it rich for centuries. If you guys call yourself bengalies then be a Bengali. I know islam is as Arab religion and you cannot hide it by using hyperbloic languages. Is there any Bangladeshi who can speak bengali properly, I doubt. Call yourself Bangladeshi not Bengali. We the Hinus are the Bengali.......

It is not necessary to take an Arabic name if you become muslim.

However, most people prefer to as Islam is more important to us than a language!

My real name is actually a bengali name and i am known by my bengali name. however i have a muslim surname, and when i had my akikah i was named ayesha.

Islam has been designed so all people can follow it as a religion, regardless of their culture or the language that they speak..... which is why europeans, africans, asians and middle eastern people can follow the religion with ease, without having to compromise their culture as well.

leave bengali to the bangladeshis..... we are far better at speaking it than anyone else. after all, it is OUR language.... it was OUR ancestors who nurtured the language and we continue to do so, regardless of the fact that our holy book is written in classical arabic (a language that is not spoken currently by any Arab since it is an almost ancient language).

If we used your reasoning, all people who proclaim to be hindus should abandon speaking hindi and the like and start speaking sanskrit.... after all, thats what you holy books are written in isnt it?

How dare you speak Hindi you Hindus..... go back to speaking sanskrit and leave hindi for the real indians....

do you realise how stupid you sound now?

Re: Re: To make it illegal !!

In Calcutta - they split themselves up by geographic origin - and you have the Gotis who are the original Calcatians, and you have the Bangals who came from the Bangladeshi region - my friend tells me that there even existed dialectual differences which are being mixed together these days... and certainly i know of "Bangals" who dislike the characteristics of "Gotis" saying things like the Gotis would sell you for breakfast and you wouldn't realise it.

Also heard tales of Gotis referring to the Bangals who emigrated there as refugees..

so like it or not you can not shake off your Bangla (ie. East Bengal) origins

In future please refrain from such a derogatory and downright ignorant 'critique' of Islam. Which you know very well, is the faith of the majority of B.Commer's.

In parting, I would like to ask you, if you do not show any respect or tolerance toward the beliefs of another, then why do you expect other's to show any respect and tolerance toward your beliefs? Something which has been the underlying theme of most of your posts.

Wink Another perspective.........

1. Why has Pakistan failed to make an unequivical and official state apology to Bangali's for the genocide of 1971?

Musharraf expressed Pak regrets at what happened in 1971. He even went and wrote those comments in guest book at "shaheed minar".

2. Why has Pakistan failed to repay the more than $3 billion worth of assets stolen from Bangladesh? Our ppl's rightful inheritance.

There is talk going on btw the brotherly governments on both issues. Pak has also told bangladesh that it will have also have to share debts [loans taken for e. pakistan] that pakistan has been making payments on.

Anyways, I dont understand why ASSETS are being made such an issue by Awami Leaguers [especially].
Bangladesh FREELY and WILLINGLY decided to break their bond with Pakistan. So they shouldn't have any claims to anything Pakistani.........
BRITISH COLONIZED AND RULED INDIA BUT NO ONE HAS ASKED THEM
[INDIA, PAK AND/OR BANGLADESH] TO REPAY ANY ASSETS THAT THEY HAVE TAKEN AND/OR USED OF UNITED INDIA......
MAY BE BANGLADESH [ALSO INDIA, PAK, SRI LANKA AND OTHER BRITISH COLONISED AREAS] SHOULD ASK THEM FIRST BEFORE ASKING PAKISTAN.....

Many, if not majority [i believe majority] understand AL's political linkage with the so-called "assets issue"...

BUT AN AL SUPPORTER LIKE YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND OTHER VIEWPOINTS AND BLINDLY SUPPORT HASINA EVEN WHEN SHE SAYS **** ABOUT BANGLADESH LIKE IT IS AN ISLAMIC TERRORIST STATE WHOSE ARMED FORCES [PLUS ISLAMIC FORCES] SUPPORT AL-QAEDA....

3. Why has not even one Pakistani General, officer or soldier been held responsible and punished for murder, rape and theft committed during the Liberation War.

I would try to leave this issue to be settled btw the two goverments BUT the Bangladeshi government doesn't have proof on many of the alleged cases.

PLUS, MANY OF THOSE PAKISTANI GENERALS ARE MOSTLY DEAD SO THEY DON'T "SEEM FIT" TO FACE TRIALS RIGHT NOW.....

4. Why are Pakistani's taught fabricated history at schhol that it was Bangali treachery, instigated by Indian 'infiltrator's' that lead to the 1971 conflict?

THERE WAS INDIAN RAW INVOLVEMENT THAT WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN BREAK-UP OF PAKISTAN [THE BREAKING AWAY OF E. PAKISTAN]....

HAve anyone of you read the immense RAW and other Indian intelligence agencies' huge involvement in E. Pakistan and modern-day Bangladesh.

India has had financial, political, religious and other issues but there hasn never been the kind of E. Pakistan insurgency there.

I am not trying to absolve Pak army of any responsibility BUT BENGALIS ARE VERY "EMOTIONAL" AND INDIANS TOOK GREAT ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

There was an intelligence failure on part of Pakistan also!!!!

Indian generals have said that had Pakistan attacked in October instead of late November/early December then Indian plans for the MUKTI/MUJIB BAHINI would have had taken a serious setback.
