Anybody that has a respect or an interest in TV past and present would have been saddened today by the death of one of its favourite sons

Actor, husband and father John Thaw died this afternoon after a battle with cancer of the oesophagus. He has played many of TVs most famous characters and will be sadly missed by fans, friends, family and his talents will also be missed. A long spanning career saw him win many awards including a lifetime achievement.

He was 60 years old. R.I.P
