it has been discussed long ago.

Dowry is to take as its been mentioned in the quran.Even though girls parents cant afford it you should force to get it otherwise divorce her.and if he can y not asking more and more? why it is "sunnah" it shouls be "farz"

This time all of you will be agreeing with me right? i knew it.

Salamzz......

Butterfly, there u go again, pretending u are saying things from the Quran and Sunnah...
well, ur not and dont deny it.

Forhad....
Dowry is Sunnah and it can be anything a man can give, that is acceptable to the woman.
Its a present from the husbannd to the wife.
Dowry can be given in any form.
There r hadiths which inform us that some shahabi gave a date as a dowry. it was accepted by the wife, so that was it!
The wife may ask for her husband to let her study after marriage as a dowry.
......Asking for extortionate amounts of money/land, etc is totally wrong.

Wassalam.

Question

Dowry (mahr)

According to qur'an and sunnah there is very little talk about dwry, but it has been mentioned in hadith that mahr is only a gift it has to be given according to the husband financial circumstances, and which the wive happily agrees to.

A marriage is not a valid contract without Mahr. it does not to have money or gold involved.

It can be non- material like teaching the wive to read the qur'an"Mahr" is a gift groom to bride. this is the islamic law, unlike some cultures whereby the brides parents pay the future husband to marry the duaghter. this practice degrades women and is contrary to the spirit of islam.
There is no specification in the qur'an as to what or how much the Mhar has to be.

Once again it depends on both the financiall circumstances is and there is no force on how much the Mahr to be paid.
