Congratulation in securing the interview, (did you take the RAS test).
By getting an interview means that on paper you are good enough for the job. Employers dont want to waste time (which is money) interviewing people unless they are capable of doing the job. Before the interview do the following. 1. Read through the job description over and over again. 2. Devise interview questions and prepare answers include experience/skills that you can offer or bring to the job. eg. Why do you want to work for the MOD? What can you offer to the MOD that we might not already have? What do you know about the MOD? What is your understanding of equal opportunities in the work place? Describe a time when you had to manage a difficult situation? How would your friends describe you? Where would you like to see yourself in five years time? What experience of team work can you bring to the job? etc, etc. These are typical questions that you may get. You can devise questions from the job description. 3. Do background research on the works and roles of MOD. 4. Make a portfolio with evidence of your work, achievements, certificates, etc. Voluntary work is seen very hifhly. 5. On the day of the interview, wake up early, attend on time. 6. Look smart/professional, friendly. 7. Look interesting, entusiastic, feel motivated, and ask questions. 8. The interview itself. Take a deep breath, count to three before answering the question. Look at the person on the interview panel asking the question. Make each answer about 3 minutes long, include skills gained from studies, work, voluntary work, etc. If you dont understand a question, ask them to rephrase. Body language, eye contact is very important. They can assess you based on how you walk into the room. You are there to sell yourself, so highlight all your strengths, qualities at every opportunity. Its normal to be nervous. At the end they will ask you if you have any questions, ask about one or two. Or end by saying I did have couple of questions but they have been covered, or ask about training opportunities, professional development, etc. Good Luck. I went for the Diplomatic Services (Foreign Office). Now work in Education. Anyway, I hope this has been helpful. If there is anything specific you need, you can write to me on Ashid786@hotmail.com |

Hi Aqaiyum,
Fisrt of all congradulation for getting the interview. Your half way there!!! I've had a couple of interviews with banks and Ahad has basically covered everything. A few things to add from my experience. 1 make sure you have breakfast before you go, as you don't want your stomach to churn at the iterview 2 Wear a suit, polished shoes but make sure you don't over do the perfume. 3 make good eye contact and if there are more than one person at the interview make sure you look at everone ie don't just stare at one person. 4 Never make anything up as when your nervous you can get easily get caught (peronal exp of my flatemates) 5 Avoid using the word ummm i always do that I think thats all Anyway all the best with the interview. Ley us know how it went and thing that you could of improved so that it might help us as well GOOD LUCK |
