Do you then wonder at this recital [Quran] And you laugh at and weep not [Like the believers do] Wasting away your precious lifetime in pastime and amusements [Singing etc]."

[Al-Quran, Surah An-Najm, Ayah 59-60]

The kaffir entertainment industry is competing with Allah for the attention of the Muslims specifically and mankind in general. Hence people today waste their time away with music and movies of Hollywood and Bollywood instead of learning the Deen. Because of this reality the average Muslim you meet in any country today is Jahil with no Taqwah.

One of the many signs before the Day of Judgment is the religious knowledge will disappear from the Muslim communities.

[See Sahih Bukhari 9/187]

In addressing the problem of the Shaitaan competing with Allah for our attention the Quran states,

"But there are, among men, those who purchase idle talks [I.e Music, Singing etc] to mislead men from the path of Allah without knowledge and make mockery of Allah's path [I.e Quran]. For such there will be a Humiliating torment [In the Hell fire]."

[Al-Quran, Surah Luqmaan, Ayah 6. See Tafseer Ibn Katheer for this Ayah]

Music is the Quran of the Shaitaan, thus anyone who listens to music soon and very soon that person will commit Zina. Because the music plays on their emotions and puts them in the mood of Zina. It is for this reason the womanizers have an expensive sound system in their cars. Likewise men and women who are promiscuous go to night clubs and discos for their partners, because the music in the night clubs puts people in the mood to commit Zina.

In commentating in this reality Allah states,

"And excite any of them whom you can among them with your sweet voice, make assault with them with your cavalry and your infantry mutually share with them wealth and children, and make promises to them nothing but deceit."

[Al-Quran, Surah Al-Israa, Ayah 64]

On commentating on this Ayah Mujaahid said, The phrase your sweet voice means music. Music that the Shaitaan uses to trap the people in his web of disobedience to Allah.

In describing the sincere servants of Allah the Quran states they avoid gathering where there is Music.

"And those who will not witness falsehood, and if they by some evil play or talk, they pass by it with dignity."

[Al-Quran, Surah Al-Furqaan, Ayah 72]

Imam Abu Bakr Hassas while commentating on this verse states, "Imam Abu Hanifa says that evil play and talk [Zoor] refers to singing and Music."

[See Ahkaam ul Quran 3/347]

Contary to common beliefs there is a number of Sahih [Authentic] ahadith, which clearly point to the indisputable fact that Musical Instruments [I.e wind and string] are prohibited by Islamic Shariah. Hence we are not allowed to play them or listen to them.

Narrated Abu Amir (ra), that he heard the Holy Prophet (saw) saying, " From among my followers there will be some who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcohol drinks and use of musical instruments as Halal [Lawful]."

[Sahih Bukhari 7/494]

We are not even supposed to listen to a bell much less to listen to wind and string instruments. In this regards the Holy Prophet (saw) said, "The Angels will never enter a home where there is a bell."

[Ahmad 2/366]

In another Hadith the Holy Prophet (saw) said, "The bell is the Shaitaan's musical instrument."

[Sahih Muslim 3/5279]
