Hi!
I'm moving in! I'll (hopefully) be doing an internship at an NGO in Dhaka (part of the degree in political science I'm studying for) and I've never been to Bangladesh before. Only been to Asia once- lived in India for a couple of years as a little kid, but can't really remember much. So I'd be grateful for some inside information, like where one goes to meet people/ where to get good ice-cream/ anything?
Thanks!

Hey Girl, first and foremost..Good Luck I hope you do good and also I hope you don't get bored outta your mind. This is my experience in dhaka and some of the things I came across. I hope it will come in Handy.

In Dhaka, specially the "modernized area" has everything that the states kinda have or they have imitations. Like for KFC, they have AFC..LoL. For Mcdonalds..They have...Someting Griddle (my advice don't go to that one). There is a Wicked Italian restaurant by Ghulshan..But they put "curry" spice on the bbq chicken...which is just SOOO WRONG!! Don't ask..I know ridiculous! But there is a Indian restaurant..ooh the food is really good...I think its called "sajana" I can't remember clearly. And there is some really good Thai restaurant..My dad's friend owns one of them, and he has some actual cook from Thailand or someting.
But they do have some wicked Restaurants (where u can JUST chill). And they also have Baskin Robbins. But the ice cream don't taste as good as here. But atleast it makes u feel like home. They have this bowling alley..LoL..I wont make a comment I will let u find out for urself. Basically get ready to get FAT! anytime u wanna go chill or someting..People just go out to eat. They do have a good GYM, I don't know the exact place but you can find out if you ask.

There isn't much place to go in Dhaka. But if u are a british or american or canadian citizen, they have their own clubs which is a VERY VERY VERY VERY relaxing and only place to breathe and feel good. You would have to go and join.

I haven't been out of dhaka except Chittagong just for 2 days to see my grandparents. There is mountains n ting and its pretty. (only best place in bangladesh in my opinion ) But i never went to other places. I am sure they have more things to offer (so no hate emails) I hope this helps. But becareful around in Dhaka. Da biggest mistake I did was give every kids in the street money and found out its all a scam,URGH!

Yea well..U know what i m gonna stop babble. LOL
If u wanna know more...about useless dhaka info..email me. But there is some people in here with more "IMPORTANT" info about dhaka (i think) will help u more than me.

Take care~

Hi urban diva!

No I won't yell at you and I'm sorry for not replying for īsuch a long time- haven't been anywhere near this site since December/January. Busy studying and packing and gettings visas and stuff. I hope to find something fun to do in Dhaka, I don't know about the clubs and stuff; they were great fun when I was 4 years old and lived in India, but now as a 20-year-old I'm not that sure it'll be fun... and I'm not american or canadian, I'm swedish. Knowing Swedes, they probably have som club of their own but I wouldn't go there for the world! Not that there's anything wrong with Swedes- they're really nice people usually, but I don't want to go all the way to Bangladesh and hang out with Swedes!!

So, have you seen "Lord of the Rings"? It's been here quite a while so it should have reached Dhaka too : ). Thanks for replying- and I love long posts, so don't worry about rattling on for ages. Like I said- sorry about taking so long to reply.

Know anything about Dhaka University?
Take care! (I promise to stay away from the Something Griddle!!!)

Sajna and Lemon Grass

'Sajna' is Indian Mughlai food (Tandoori Chicken, Naan among other things). Expensive.

'Lemon Grass' is authentic, authentic Thai food. You are even served by Thai hostesses. Sort of expensive but very good. Not a budget place.

'White House' has great 18th floor views, especially in the evenings.

Near White house there's also an 18th floor Indonesian restaurant (I can't place the name right now).
