I don't write poems, no creativity in that respect whatsoever. I appreciate poetry very much and have recently fallen in love with shorter pieces of Shelley's work. I don't like ballads, too long, require too much concentration, but im working on it... .
I do, however, love to write and that usually takes the form of letters and essays. I'm actually working on a novel (in an autobiographical style) at the moment. Unfortunately that will remain hidden in my drawer unless i want my husband to either divorce me or kill me or perhaps even both lol (it gets a little too personal, about some stuff that actually never happened between us lol.)
Do you know amar shonar bangla, i love the last verse esp the last line, " ami porer ghore kinbo na ar, ma, tor bhuson bole golar phasi'

MIna!! it's uncanny !! I too am writing a novel.
I've actually written one chapter so far, after cogitating for many years i finally decided to start writing it last year.....and thats right it's taken me a whole year to write one chapter. i'm planning to improve the writing rate, and i've also (ludricously) started on another novel (barely a few pages so far) which is sort of similar to yours in that if my wife read it she'd do to me what your husband would do to you;-)
you should post on B.com or email me some of your favourite poems.
As writers i think we can bounce ideas and thoughts off of each other and perhaps come up with some very fullfilling work which may even be regarded one day as art:-)
And might even make money!!
You'll have to translate the amar shonar bangla for me, if you like it i'm sure i'll like it.....
It would be very nice to read your novel, what you've written of it so far, whats it about ? what genre is it? does it have a title ?
mine is called THE FABLE OF FRED DANES, well keep up the good work.

Hi Tipu

I had read in one of the other topics that you were hoping to publish a novel someday.
It's taken you a year to write a chapter? Hmmm how long is the chapter? Mine is only a page (the page is a5) lol. Im sure you'll get there eventually. I know your also working, so that is probably why you haven't been able to complete it yet. I think it takes a lot of self discipline and motivation to actually sit down and write page after page not knowing whether your writing something brilliant or complete bull****. And especially so if it is your first. The second novel that you have started on sounds very interesting lol. Perhaps we should compare notes.

I would love to show off what I have of my novel, but to an english lit graduate? ummm im not too sure about that lol. My incomplete work does not have a title yet. Im not too sure how to describe the genre, it’s about domestic violence.

You don’t know ‘Amar Shonar Bangla? The first two verses are sung as our national anthem. I won’t stick the whole poem on here, I believe someone got there before me, you’ll probably have to go back a couple of pages, but im positive someone posted the whole poem, translated in English.
ami porer ghore kinbo na ar, ma, tor bhuson bole golar phasi' = Never again shall I buy in a stranger’s house a rope for your neck as your ornament.

hi Mina,
Yeah i've written about 10 pages so far, when i say it took a year....i probably spent 10-11 days in the whole year writing ( spread out through out the year ).
I was going to go on an evening course called 'novel writing' but it was fully booked up. now i guess i'll just have to brainstorm and push myself harder so that it doesn't take a year to write another chapter.
How long did it take you to write what you've written so far?

Not that it really matters, the act of writing provides a joy initself which is akin to dancing or painting and i find it a worthwhile experience as i know you do.

You have nothing to fear with regards to me being an english graduate, you could have a phd and still produce writing that's only good use would be for a land refill, i've written some stinkers in my time....

however all writing is worthwhile if it's written from the heart.
I think it'd be a good idea as you say to compare notes........lets exchange novels. have you seen 'Baji on the beach' thats about domestic violence, well it's a sort of comedy drama.
well, i'm looking forward to reading your novel.
