Zadie Smith?
her book is entitled White Teeth. its about a Bengali man who befriends a caucasian man during WWII. so they both grow up together and get married. Bengi boy marries a bengi from back home and has a pair of twin sons. Caucasian kid marries a Jamaican. so once the Bengali twins turn ten, daddy decides that the UK isnt a good place for his sons to grow up. but he only can afford to send ONE son back to Bangladesh. so he chooses whom he reckons is the "good" son. so in the middle of the night, he takes his son to the airport and puts him on a plane, the next morning the wife freaks out. 15 some years later, "good" son comes back from Bangladesh & the difference between the two boys is sooooooooo much. It's quite an interesting book, I never knew the author was Bengali until after reading the book. It starts off really slow, mind you, but once it takes off, it shoots way up there. Enjoy

Read it last year, it was a laugh
![]() They made a series and showed it on Channel4 (I think it was C4) with Om Puri as the dad....(I might be wrong again on this point...) But am almost sure (but not 100%) that Z. Smith isn't Bangali. (Why am I even bothering...it's past Midnight and I am feeling my age. At least my memo is! ) |
