I know what you mean sis, but do you know the history or story behind bengali films. They are low budget films who's target audience are not even the middle class people. Not a single person from a well established background will watch these films. The bangla words are not hard. I guess that part is just a matter of individual understanding. The clothes they wear and make up it all comes part of their low budget cost. They never shoot outside the country for various reasons. Some of which is lack of money, the actors/actresses might do a runner and not return etc.

If you watch some of the bengali dramas you'll see how different it is. That is beacuse the dramas are aimed at all people and it is much decent. Most of the stars of dramas would never sign up to act in a film because they know the out come.

Bangladeshi movies can do well only if the Govt. gives some financial and policy support. The FDC is in a dire situation right now. This good institution is in great need of modern film making equipments and training schools for the new comers. Besides that, nudity and obscenity is another area of concern where clear cut guidelines are needed. Steady inflow of private investment can help our movie industry to flourish.

Talking

I have seen it on TV, when I last visited BD. It simply looks fake. Especially the fighting scenes, it looks really hillarious. I don't understand how someone can be knocked down before even getting a punch. I mean, you can clearly see that the fist is like 5 inch aways from the face, & the person is already on the floor.

is that the black&white movie about the two poor guys who become princes with special powers?

i cant remember all of the plot but i remember it was really funny - watched it about 12yrs ago!

did they get their powers from a genie? cant remember, but it's a classic

ye thats the Satyajit Ray film innit.

i never saw it properly - it's meant to appeal across generations - but my friend tells me it was allegorical - there was some symbolism in the fantasy (what symbolism i forget tho)
Satyajit Ray is the best thing that ever happened to Bangla film. In my opinion he is the Tagore of Bangla Film.
Gupi Bagha, Hirok Rajar Deshe.. these are tremendous films. I mean its comedy at its best not only in Bangla scale but also in international scale.
I really feel sad to see that such films never became a trend. But then again my sadness has nothing to do with it. Its the socio-economical factors that decides the standard of a mass media item such as the movies.

Times have changed though. Now Bangalis are spread throughout the world. I have seen a few Hindi-English Movies like "Holywood Bolywood" etc. But what saddens me the most is that there is no such kind of Bangla movies. I bet in Canada and U.S alone, there are a lot of Bangali Independent Movie makers. What are they doing? I would love to see a Bangali Indi-movie where the immigrant life is pictured. If you are one such indi-movie maker and looking for a good script, I have a few.
gimme a hollar
