Cool

Does anyone notice that the current popularity in British Asian films aimed at mainstream English audiances. Just look at the rate of British Asian films and shows hitting the theatres.

From films like 'East is East' 'Bend like Beckham' to west end show 'Bombay Dreams' the asians have 'arrived' the general public is hungry for more Asian culture and complex and dual lives they live in modern Britain.

Cool

I watched Monsoon Wedding. Thought it dealt with delicate subjects like Paedophilia and Extra Marital Affairs in a sensible manner.

American Desi was also way funny...especially the Indian physics teacher.

We Asians seem to be the 'flavour of the month' at the moment. Better enjoy it while it lasts though.

"Bollywood Hollywood" is a recent movie but Mehta (something) ..the lady who did "FIRE".

It's actually more comedic approach then rest of her movies which were very serious and dramatic.

Its based in Toronto. So people who haven't been to Toronto...can get a idea what it looks like.

It looks at life ...how Bollywood has a effect on the western lifestyle that South Asians grew up in (the hollywood aspect of it).

Its a good movie....i recommend you all to see it

I would add AMS, that 'Moonsoon Wedding' is also another cracker, but hasn't got the British theme.
The mainstream Bollywood fliks don't seem to deal with subjects that r considered taboo, like dowry murders, caste descrimination and wife beatings. After all the producers don't want to lose money by dealing with difficult subjects. Only Arthouse films that r destined to b shown at film festivals. Also the producers know their audiance, who are mostly working class and after hard days of taxing want to see pretty heroines dancing in a beautiful locations with lots of melo drama and now the trend is 'love triangle'
