Devdas is the most expensive Indian film ever made costing reported 50 corer. Most people already know the plot and the ending, I think It will be a big FLOP as they can’t recoup the vast money spent on the film.

What do you think.

flop ya hit?

Seen the Dilip Kumar original several times which was excellent and have seen bits of the new Devdas and read some of the Indian critic reviews from India. The critics said that the movie is over-loaded with too much emotion, drama and is too lavish.
The movie supposedly did well in Cannes but Sanjay Leela Bansari is now re-shooting / re-editing scenes (hmm?). Guess we will have to wait and see!

Though we know the ending etc the story is a classic. Just thank God they took Shah Rukh Khan rather than Salman! Salman's overactting in HDDCS was cringing!

Smile U are quite a Filmi Lady Aruub!

I think it will be a box office disaster for Mr Bharat Shaw, who financed the film. But he won’t go bankrupt, as he is so filthy rich! He has got money tied up in several Bollywood films. They simply spent TOO much money on the film, like building very expensive sets. The reason it will flop is that people already know what the story is and how it ends. I really liked Sanjay’s Hum dil de chuke sanam. This one I think will be a money loser and stain his name.

Nevertheless like u said it was well received at Cannes, which was good to see.

didnt I just see you in another thread??!

Asalaamwale Kum bro shunar_chand!

Thanks for the compliment, I dont know my movies that well ( I didnt know about Bharat Shaw's investments in the movie or other movies) but agree to some extent that the movie may not do so well. The movie is over 3 hours long and from what I have heard the sets are so lavish that initially everything looks really amazing but by the end of the movie so much decadence is an eye-sore! I dont know if you saw Khabi Khushi Khabi Ghum but by the end of the movie there was so much sugary sweet sentiments we felt ill!

I personally liked HDDCS as it was fairly simple in its story line and approach, the decor was nice but the movie concentrated on the story which I think helped its success. I guess I am in two minds about Devdas, I loved Bimal Roy's version and was really shocked to hear that the SJ Bansali's version will have a dance sequence with Ash and Maduri in a dance competition or something??! Eh? in the versions I know they never meet! And how can a Ghar Ki Bahu dance in a competition? May be I am too conservative!

One reason why I think it wont do well is because the standards of Hindi movies have improved with Dil Chahata hai and Company (havent seen that one yet) and Raaz etc, so Devdas for style alone.

Lets see eh?

Wasalaam

Thumbs up I must say u know your films!

Yes, HDDCS is a great film. I hated salman's cocky performance, showing his body and worse farting! Ajey Devgan was brilliant, his understated performance really made the film enjoyable and there was the excellent twist at the end. Only Sanjay can come up with that brillant idea.

I've seen kkkg, it's good but the songs are very good, my fav is 'kiya eh mere pehla pyaar' but Kajol's performance was too over the top, at times it looked very embarrasing!
I bet Amitabh tried to cast his son Abishek instead of Hritikh, shame that his son still hasn't got a big hit, remains to be seen how long he can continew to act in Bollywood.

A word about Bharat Shaw, who also financed HDDCS, he is currently under arrest for being involved with the Bombay kingpins, I read that Sanjay had to beg him to give him more money and he too had borow money from relatives to finish the film. Let's hope Sanjay doesn't commit suicide if the film doesn't do well!
