A Kind of English
Directed by Ruhul Amin "AKIND OF ENGLISH" Its a british film for Channel 4. It's a study of a Bngali family in the East End London, seen mainly through eyes of the nine-yearold samir (Jamil Ali). His Father (Badsha Haq) is being slowly destroyed by unemployment, a taste for gambling, an inability to reconcile his patriarchal upbringing with the need for his to earn their bread. The boy's uncle(Andrew Jhonson), is a cheerful minicab driver, being drawn inexorably into a Britsh society whose shadows shelter racist attackers. As all the old certainities are reshaped in ways she cannot control, Lalita Ahmed, as the mother, portrays the whole sad world with scarcely a world, but with unshaken dignity. Its a very realistic movie. |
