Unhappy

Hi everyone,

I moved to NY from bangladesh when I was very young and over the years my bangla has deteriorated to the point where I can't get past the "kemon achen" stage of a conversation... of course, when i was younger i didn't care whether I could speak bangla or not... but now, the idea of completely losing my language is really sad.

Does anyone on this board know of bangla language websites/books that start with the basics and are easy to follow? I speak very little and used to be able to understand everything but i spent the last couple of years studying in South America without any contact with bengalis and now my comprehension skills suck too...

i can show you an easy way. just collet the book "Shohoj Path" by Rabindranath Tagore. i think reading the book again and again is the most effecient and effective way to learn Good Bengali. this book was written to introduce bengali language and the life in bengal to the students. you can try it. reading this book aloud may help your speaking problem. i think this is a perfect book to teach bengali to anybody!

think how we learnt english? watching english movies, listening to english songs, talking to people in english and reading english books. why dont you try these things for bengali also? there are a bunch of good bengali movies and dramas which are also available online for free. for watching bengali movies and dramas and downloading songs you can try polapain.com and boishakh.com.

for reading bengali books you can go to banglalive.com, robithakur.com.

join active bengali internet forums like dhanshiri.ca, ohornish.com, golpo.net, where they have some bangladeshi members also.

hope these things will be of help if you really want to learn bengali again.

thank you.
