Bangla, a language spoken by about 200 million people of south asia, is the state language of Bangladesh. Bangla is an ill-fated living language, her development with the time is very slow. Bangladeshi intellectuals are very conservative in nature and depend on the bengali intellectuals of West bengal. They try to drive this language towards the dead language Sangskrit, so called Hindu nostalgia. Long before people of present Bangladesh spoke Pali language, the upper castes try to established Sangskrit but failed. During the muslim rulers Bangla language was evolved under auspices of muslim rulers. But at that time Phersi (Farsi) was the official language. During the British period english was the official language. During this time Bangali hindus and Christian missionary made a conspricy against Bangali Muslims. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and others changed the course of Bangla language, they removed lot of arabic, phersi words from Bangla and introduced lot of Sangskit words. they changed thew alphabets and created Dev nagri ( Sangskit) similar letters. So all on a sudden bangali muslims became illterate.During Pakistan period, Urdu was the main force for communicating both parts of Pakistan. At that time then east pakistani thought that Bangla should be written in Roman letters ( A B C D etc). Intellectuals opposed it. It was a great blunder. We fill it now.Turkey changed to roman, bahasa malaysia, bahasa indonesia, Somalia, swahili etc changed to Roman letters.
This is the era of technology. Computer plays vital in this world. The world is now become IT village. It is difficult to convert all programs or softwares into Bangla. It is the high time to change the alphabets. Rafiq, Salam, Barqat didn't give their blood to stagnate Bangla. Amar Shonar Bangla Ami tomay bhalobashi. What's wrong with this letters? Everyday we use bangla this type in email and chat. So it is very common for computer users. So now it needs to be standardization. Please comment on it. |

I think we should let it be as it is.
Your choice of Alphabets shouldn't make a difference. And any attempt to create rules regarding this transliteration will have the affect of Porivashas on Bangla. Absolutely no positive affect rather a complication and trouble.

Dear dhee,
Bangla is NOT written in Debnagori alphabet. As far as I know, Hindi, Marathi and Nepali are written in Debnagori. Bangla is written in Bangla alphabet which is very much different from Debnagori. In these days you can use Bangla in your e-mails. That technology is now available. |

Dhee, it is quite an interesting thaut u hav here....it would be really easy to use Romanized bangla...u kno, w/o all those extra "kau, bau, dhau".....
But also, this is quite impossible. Why? it goes to the ppl's heart. Bengla ppl r known for their x-treme nationalism...which has its downsides. They do no good sumtimes w/ this trait. They cheer for their nation w/o doing any good. This is not the only reason. I personally would not let the beautiful Banla scripture go to waste. Its truley the most beautiful one in this world....ofcourse if u hav a good handwriting. ___________________________________ if life gives u a lemon, make lemonade out of it....but make it sweet, so others could enjoy it too.... |

OK if your willing to change the alphabet why not change it to the arabic alphapet since most bangladeshis are Muslims. We can add letters to fit the bangla language.
