Angry Is sylhetti a language or dialect????????

I would say, the form of Syletti is full and perfect on its own. It is a language though it doesnt have that superiority as a state lanuguage. If people say its not a language, then they need to know at first how to define a language. How can u say that WE the sylhetti citizen left in a corner of Bangladesh without a language.... Definately sounds terrible people without a language.

classifying between language and dialect, are we not classifying peoples as well???? CAn we say that the people who use language superior than the people who use dialect????? Oh, come on, obiviously not!!!!

Uttorer oppekkai achi.......

I totally wigree with u Sorna, it's a language in its own right! Sylheti is not a dialect as Sylheti has several dialects of its own!! Many experts in the language fields have indentified it as a seperate language from sudo basha or Bangla. Each region of Sylhet has own dialect and word varitions and accent. Let me give u some examples. The English 'where' in Sylheti, there are several words which u can use. Khano, khoi, kunna-no, kuwai.

I used to have School a friend who was from Mymenshing, though he was the only non-sylheti pupil there, he always spoke in English even though he can speak his mother tongue Bangla. The reason that he always spoke in English, even with me, was that we don't understand much what we were trying to say. i.e him speaking in Bangal and I am speaking in Sylheti. So we choose English as the medium for communcation.

Also Sylheti people have a different culture than the 'real Bengalis' When British Sylhetis go to Bangladesh, they allways go to Sylhet and marry their sons and daughters in Sylhet. For them Sylhet is Bangladesh and Bangladesh is Sylhet. Anybody heard Sylheti families going to Mymenshing, comilla or Borishall etc to get their sons or daughters married there??
