I love Bangladeshis and their mother tongue -- Bangla or Bengali.
I'm a Chinese correspondent and worked in Bangladesh for two years from Dec.93-Jan.96. I love Bangla and trained myself into a Bangla speaker within three months. When I was about to leave the country, I spoke Bangla more fluently than English and my mother tongue. Bangla is not only a great language with hundreds of millions of speakers in South Asia but also the prime factor that triggered Bangladeshi people's independence campaign five decades ago. Bangla is the mother tongue of Tagore and a language that brings a sense of romance and pride to both its speakers and listeners. When I was in Bangladesh, I loved to talk with local friends and even tried to join them in dramas. Being able to speak the language made it possible and joyful for me to visit many local homes, making numerous friends, and travelled throughout the country, touring from Kushtia to Cox Bazar, driving alone. I made good friends with some academicians and scholars from local universities and academies, with special efforts to study the language and relevant matters. Invitation: I'd like to meet old and new friends in Bangladesh. Send emails to "fangzhou@xinhuanet.com". |
