I am new to the Bangladesh culture and am very interested in visiting the country 9/2001. I would like to be familiar with the language by then. Are there any suggestions on where I may take classes or purchase cassettes or maybe even something for the computer?
If so please reply to this posting or email me at JMDJW71@HOTMAIL.COM. Thanx, ------------------ JUDE |

I think Bangladeshi is the language which you speak and Bengali is the language which you read or write. For West Bengal they speak, read and write Bengali. I think you should develop your own Bangladeshi Language like Urdu from Hindi by using Arabic and Perisan words and using 'Bangal' Laguage not Bengali, for Example "Ami bahut khubsoorat" not "Ami khub sundor" and "Tomar makaan kidhar aachhe?" not "Tomar bari kothaye". It will be real Bangladeshi Language !!

One thing I forgot...
You can change the name of "Bangladesh" to "Bangali Mulk" as Desh is a sanskrit word.
"paribona paribona e kothati boliona ar Ek bar na parile dekho shotobar" TO "Habo na Kamyaab phir bolo nay yaar, ek bar e na hole dekho sau baar" |

Bangladeshi is a nationalistic identity.
Bangali is one who speaks bangla as his/her mother tongue. Bangla is the language you read and write. All languages take words from other languages it comes in contact with. Hindi ahs more Arabic, persian and urdu words than Bangla (bangladesh version) does. We have more English words and getting more by the day. Once it was attempted to use porivasha but that was a complete failure. Now we just adapt the English words we need. And English is so widespred is beacuse of its vocab and the number words, phrases etc that it has taken from otehr languages and cultures.
