I used to know how to write bangali alot but these days English is enough.. although think I can faintly remember the basics.... not so good, is it?....

I guess I can read more thoroughly .....although I'll admit understanding the words is poor.....

Nevertheless...wot about u guys?.......

yeah my mum made me learn it for gcse, 3 months b4 the exams

learning the alphabet, reading, writing and spelling was really hard in such a short space of time

but i was helped by the fact that i cud speak bangla.

now im really glad that i can cos i can write letters in bangla to my family back in desh and it makes me feel more "bangali"!

(If you did Bengali GCSE from school - and if your teacher was Sylheti - i think i know who she was..)

I taught myself how to read Bengali - so that i could read my cousins' letters over and over again - but then email's took over, so that benefit didn't last for long - oh also it was useful when reading the Agony Apa page in Surma/notun din (i forget which), she was called Salma Apa, but it was easier to read then the rest of the paper -

i dont know what she was.

i only met her once for my aural exam.... which i really effed up, but i must have mastered my writing/speaking/listening because i still got a good grade!

as for salma apa.... she used to be the agony aunt in the eastern eye. ive never even tried reading the advice columns in the bangla papers. i dont think id understand them too well.... in any case, advice columns are all made up anyway. i remember when we were at school, we used to write into Just 17 and More with fake outrageous problems and some of them even used to get printed! lol

sad, i know.... but thats what we used to do when we were 13 and it was raining during break times.
