Ok guys and gurls,

need a bit of help here, and pls no "arwar ghorro arwa" sentences Star

If someone says, "bala aso ni" what am I supposed to answer to that? I know it's "I am fine" but how do you say that?

Here are a few others that I have no clue how to say:

I miss you.

I am tired.

Drive carefully.

Have a nice day/evening.

hehe and "when the fcuk are you going to get down on ya knee and propose" jks

DAMN! - coz there wre plenty more where that came from

Okay gonna have an attempt at answerin some of ure questions - but my Sylheti these days is only marginally better than my Urdu - i don't get to speak it that much these days (re:to discussion on "talking")

bala aso ni - is "are you well?"

to which u reply ji-oy bhala asi (u can leave the ji out if u dont have to be polite to the person)

ORRR u can say - asi ekh-rokhom / asi muta-muti - which i think means "yeaaah okay"

ORR you can say - Ar khoyo na, amar janre dori-layse - "old age is gettin to me "

Bhala na kharaf tumar kita hoy - tumi amar kuz low ni - "what's it to u, do u ever ask "

I miss you.
Ami tumara miss kori (i don't think Sylheti ppl ever miss each other - B'deshi ppl switch to shuddo-basha when they wanna be romantic, but ASB can help out)

tho i guess u cud say "tumar lagi amar jaane taner" - which is kinda like i miss u, but more in the way that a relly would miss u rather than a loved one

ami heran hoy gesi

Amar fet-o je ges hoygese (okay i'm not too sure bout that one, noones asked me to have a nice day before )

Quote:
"when the fcuk are you going to get down on ya knee and propose" jks [/b]
"Ey fua - tui kita amare biya khortay na ni - ami nu offeka khorte khorte buri hoy jay-raam "

(tho as i said someone like ASB can give u a more accurate answer)

Star has had a fair stab. Anyhow, here's my contribution, such as it is.

Don’t talk to me! = Amar shathe mathio na!

Drive carefully = Shabdane ghari chalaben

Good evening = Shubho shondha (shondha meaning evening)

Good morning = Shubho shokal (shokal meaning morning)

Good night = Shubho rathri (rathri meaning night)

Have a good journey = Shubho jathra

Have a nice day = Bhalo houk thumar (or aponar instead of thumar if you wanna be respectful) dhinta (nobody serenades me with this either )

It’s nice to see you = Tumaray dekhya kubh kushi oiysi

Listen to me = Amar kotha huno (or shuno)

Thankyou = Dhonnobad

And finally, the big question.

You can try:

I'm waiting = Ami tu oppekkay acchi (he'll get it if he has an ounce of subtlety).

Or:

And in pure sylhetti:

Am I gonna sit here for you, forever? = Ami kita ikano boiya thakmo na khita tor lagi? (You might wanna add hallar halla for the Snoop effect).

Though Star's effort is more direct and to the point.

Hope that helps some, Angel. Don't worry, given a year at most, you'll be chatting better Bangla than most Bengali's. Once you start to hear it being spoken, it is easy to pick up.

I've not even mastered the basics yet and sometimes wonder if I ever will!

Oh well, guess time will tell.
