Mine is pretty sh!te really.

We had rellies round at the weekend, and i realised that ive forgotten how to speak bangla properly.

pretty damned sad if you ask me. my first language was sylheti and i had an asian accent til i was halfway through primary school! i havnt really spoken it much since dad died either, cos he was the only one i spoke bangla to. looks like ive forgotten a lot on a year .... plus ive always had a problem in that i cant roll my r's properly, and you need to do that a lot to pronounce things properly, dont you.

i can hear the right words in my head, but when they come out of my mouth they are all muddled. why is that?

and you can pretty much guarantee that when you say something stoopid, one of your mean rellies is gonna be there to take the piss out of you (forever)

..... perhaps all i need is a bit of confidence.

does anyone else have the same problem?

How good is everyone's Shuddo-Basha? understanding shouldn't be a problem for any of us, unless it's trying to understand the literal Bangla - but the opportunity to speak it is not there for most.

Mine's poor - but i do have the chance to give it a go -coz i have a close friend from Calcutta, and he seems to understand me - somehow - and never points out the faults, thereby my confidence isn't damaged.

I think amongst the Sylheti community in general it's not as good as it could be - because we can get by without speaking it... there doesn't seem to be enough intermixing between Sylheti and Non-Sylheti's which would have helped broaden our linguistic skills.
